I was recently sent the total distance I travelled for the month of September
The distance travel of 7,532km
Wow!
It's the same distance to be covered driving from Lagos to London, united kingdom for 120hours (equivalent to 5 days).

A whole week just moving from one farm estate to another!
But it is what it is

You can't have farm enterprise and not follow up with those on the field to make sure the right thing is being done; still coupled with poor network in some of these locations for smooth online communication.

Most new people investing in agriculture believe once you are done with land cultivation and planting, all other things will work out itself.

Capital No!

You have to follow up every step/process from the beginning to the end where you sell your produce.

If you have a small farm, you are safe.

If you have two farms in multiple locations, double stress and headache

If you have large farm estates in multiple locations like ours, then you have to be on your toes at all times.

Proper follow up on all of the farm operations, risk assessment and management are the essentials to succeed.

Don't leave your farm venture to workers on the farm with no following up and expect money to roll into your pocket at the end of the day.

Never give up on your dream.

My little experience in agribusiness has taught me that the only way to succeed in this environment is to never give up

Like what Dangote will always say "persistence of purpose supercedes any other thing"

How far can you persist in the face of letdown?

How far can you keep pushing in the face of disappointment?

How far can you keep learning, keep moving in the face of dampened expectations?

In 2010, I wrote on a piece of paper what I wanted to achieve in 2-3 years time; pasted it on the wall of my room what I wanted to achieve in terms of the number of acres of land I wanted to be cultivating and the revenue I wanted to be generating at that time.

I was getting closer to my goals when suddenly about 50Ha cassava got destroyed and back to square zero

My spirit was dampened for many weeks, my body was weak and was seriously confused.

I was on the edge of giving up but 3 things came to mind.

1. if I give up now,the years of acquiring skills/techniques will get to waste and have to start afresh in another industry

2. I have a strong conviction that agribusiness is going to be the future and I have to stay there to enjoy the benefits.

Giving up early will means forfeiting the future benefits of what's to come.

3.The goal is not an end,it's just a means to an end and part of the grand purpose.

It's not the grand goal.

After many weeks,I dusted myself up and started working on how to start all over again and within 1 year, I recovered and hit my goals

From the bitter experience,I learnt that you need a mentor to guide you and tell you what to do per time.

I made that mistake and I paid for it.

Unfortunately at the time, there was very few mentors open to guiding new, young entrants.

The little mentorship, guidance from myself and other people you are having on this platform should be taking seriously to save you a lot of time ,stress and resources.

What you have on paper or in your head might not necessarily work out with your timeframe but with persistence of purpose and never give up attitudes in the face of defeat will get you there.

Many years ago,a government agency involved in renting of land for prospective farmers around Ogun state approach me about leasing about 70 acres of land with sprinkler irrigation for dry season agriculture.
On getting to the land and mere siting the farmland,I know nothing good can come out of it...
Yes,at an attractive price but price does not matter when it comes to farmland lease or purchase if the fertility comes into questioning.

Many years after,I was passing through the same location and I was like let me even check this place again.
On getting there,I saw some farmers complaining bitterly about the land and the poor yield it's given them even after bringing in truckload of manure to replenish the soil

My second thought was,why can't a government agency incorporate regenerative agriculture into their operational system
Why must you allow farmers to cultivate only a particular crop year in year out until they runs out the fertility of the soil?
Anyways, fertility matters and will save you costs during the few years of cultivation.

That's why we make sure we incorporate sustainable soil fertility management on all of our farm estates farm operations so that you can enjoy the land for many decades to come

Re: Lesgupnigeria: Notice To All Nairalanders On Agric Section by Lesgupnigeria(m): 1:52pm On Oct 28, 2022
Right timing is everything in agriculture.

You need a right timing of cultivation that will ensure that you meet the right market; the right market to guaranteed returns on what you have cultivated.

This year weather situation was like 2016 when we had rain for just few months for the whole year.

I am predicting rise in food prices, inflation, famine in 2021 and that's why everyone must grow food in his/her houseyard to reduce the impact.

From my interactions with fellow farmers and the one I witnessed especially in the south western part of this country, many losses were recorded due to erractic nature of weather and this will have great Impact come 2021.

We were very lucky to have a good outing with our okra and soybeans we did this year in our ogbomoso and ilorin farm estate and I can link it up to cultivating at the right time better than the other farmers around.

Okra planting started about 2 weeks before other farmers around started and few weeks into when we started counting our harvesting time, the rain seized.

At the time of the rain seizure, our okra is already well established with fruits just coming out ,of which other farmers' okra that are weeks behind us was unfortunate and failed because the rain stopped at the growing stage.

The same thing for the soybeans.

Right timing for the harvest and for the planting was the factor of success.

The same scenario occur for others who had poor outing.

Rain stopped at the growing stage and it affected a lot of soybeans farmers.

Due to lack of rain, their soybeans grains were of poor, slight greenish unripe one.

On the other hand,we had good white, very ripe grains that command good price in the market.

Being one or two week late to cultivation can have a big impact on the outcome of any crop you cultivate.

In 2021,our cultivation will begin in February and we will be expanding our plantain, oilpalm, cashew etc on our various farm estates.

*****************

I wrote this last year,2022 season is a lot different.

A lot of flash rainfall like we had it in 2012.

Most crops destroyed and I guess food price is going to double up come 2023.

In the word of my father "the cities of today were villages of yesteryears"

I was been told then how ikorodu, agege, mowe, were once thick forest nobody want to buy land there but now everybody wants to have a piece of it.

Unfortunately,it's too late.

Land is an asset to edge against inflation and create wealth.

Just about 5 years ago,we acquire about 4.04 million sqm of farmland in ogbomoso which we used to establish one of our farm estates.

After it was surveyed and secured,I paid a visit and I was like “God,how do we get here”

Thick bushes everywhere, you can hardly see the next person 2metres away.

But well this is cash generating assets that's expected not only to appreciate on value but to generate cashflow for us

So I thought

This is a cash generating assets.

Our farms will over the years keep generating cash for us while the land itself keep appreciating in value.

Many years ago,a potential client from Germany wanted to acquired large expanse of farmland to start a farm business but surprisingly said he is not longer interested in that particular location.

I asked him “why?”

He said “ the location is undeveloped and bushy”o

Recently,I did a drone video of the same location and sent to him

He was like “wow”

He was surprised by the changes that has taken place over few years ago and he wanted to key in but unfortunately the expanse of land is no longer available in that location at that price

If anybody tells you to come and buy farmland inside bush, don't hesitate.

It seems our rural side is developing faster than we thought possible as seen from all of our farm estate locations over the last few years

Apart from appreciation of our land,it is also yielding revenue for WaleAgro and all of our partners in the various locations.

First, you have your land appreciate in value and

Second, your land keep generating revenue for you till forever.

Agriculture is truly a double edged profitable sword.

This is the right time to plug in!!

You want to create and build wealth through agriculture?
Own farmland and own enormous of it
Own a well managed cash crops like oilpalm, cashew, plantain, cocoa with livestock (goats, sheep ,cattle) and go about your daily job.
Come back 5-6 years and you have something to sustain you and your unborn generation for the rest of their lives.

Re: Lesgupnigeria: Notice To All Nairalanders On Agric Section by Lesgupnigeria(m): 10:57am On Nov 02, 2022
Someone asked me yesterday "why are you so passionate about agriculture,encouraging and preaching that people should get involved in the business of agriculture" ;

In his words " I have been following you for 6 years now on your social media platforms and have learnt a whole lot from you; your passion and how you have helped other people start their agribusiness successfully is encouraging".
More power to your elbow!

I want to pay a visit to your farm estate in ijebu-igbo to see you and see what I can start immediately.
I like your passion and consistency"

Very simple,my passion stems from these simple reasons;

Agriculture is the key that opens the door of prosperity to the nation and to the Nigerian citizens.

No developed country get to where they are right now without first develop their agricultural systems.

Strangely,it was developed by their citizens and how was that able to happen?
They got actively involved in it's development and reap the reward.

All the enabling factors (good fertile farmland, good weather, cheap labourers, etc)are already available at our backyard, it's just for us to take action.

There are lot of wealth creating opportunities that we can get involved in,from farming, processing, retailing, transportation, exportation etc

So the time is now for you to get involved

If you can't fly...then run.

If you can't run...then walk.

If you can't walk, then crawl but whatever you do,you have to keep moving forward....

...Martin Luther king Jnr.

In this part of the world we put a lot of energy on talking but little on action.

More than a decade ago,I set out to start my farm business.i wanted to start with acquisition of 100 acres; 100 acres was a huge goal for me at the time and I thirst for it but unfortunately my financial muscle and my goal do not follow.

So I had to start with leasing 1 hectare somewhere in Ogun state.
I was discouraged and had the choice of abandoning my goal but I understand that I had to walk and worked with leased 1 hectare if I am going to have the opportunity of running with my 100 acres goal.

There is nothing as important as setting your goals and executing.

Executing takes you closer to achieving your goals

The greatest mistake you can make is to have a goal and not be motivated to work in achieving them

If you can't fly with it and you can't run with it,then crawl with it....make sure that no matter how little you progress, you are closer to your goal now than yesterday

Don't just have your goals on paper or in your head without taking actions to achieving it no matter the small steps you take.

The only way is forward ever.

Someone told me last month
"I want to own 500 acres farm"
I said "well, you can do it but where are you starting from this week"

Are you starting from owning few tens of acres first and then move to 100 or 500 or you are waiting for the perfect time?

The fact is perfect time is a mirage.
Keep going,Never stop working on your goals.

Lesson 101 for agro-investors and farmers

One of the things that kills many farmers/investors is not biting more than they can chew.
Many want to cultivate 200 acres of land but don't have the resources of cultivating 50 acres.

Cultivate the number of acres you have the resources to do.
In short start what you can finish.

If you start and don't finish, you would have wasted the initial money invested and at the end of the day would not be able to get the returns.

There are many abandoned farm, don't join the numbers.
Good day!

This normally happen to newbie coming into farm business
The thinking is like

"I will cultivate 10 acres of land with Maize"

"If I spend N100k for clearing at N10K per acre

N70k for ploughing

Buy N100k worth of seeds

Plant at N50k at N5k per acre

Do 3 weedings during the lifecycle of maize at N50k per each weeding making N150k for the 3 weedings.

After 3 months,I should have 3 tons per acre making it 30 tons in total.

If I am to sell a tonne at N150k,that's a whooping N4.5M income!!! "

In reality,

You cultivate 10 acres of maize,

Before you get it clear, you were chasing those to clear it for you up and down

And before you know it,economic situation has increase the cost of clearing to N12k per acre making you incur N120k to clear for the 10 acres

Seeing that time is against you and you wanted to plant, you quickly organize workers to plant for you manually.

The plant population that's suppose to be 10,000 was just 2000

You did 2 weedings because you were unable to manage your workers well and didnot finish their work on time

After 3 months, you got 500kg on an acre making it 5 tonnes in total

A ton was sold at N120k

And at the end of the day,the income was a meager N600k

Can you see the difference!

4.5M on paper and 600k getting to your bank account.

Do you know what went wrong?

If you are starting as a newbie in farm business, then work with agropreneur/s with practical knowledge for guidance.

Want to acquire farmland, start up,setup, need workers to manage your farm enterprise, call or send Dm.

If I could roll back the hand of time to more than a decade ago that i started this farm business, one thing I would have love happen; creating mentorship programme for young people interested in agribusiness

If the very few ahead in the sector create mentorship opportunity for young people interested in agribusiness; maybe many things people learnt through trial by error wasting time and resources would have save them a lot

Now that we are a giant in the farming sector, I believe that the right time is now to build more young people into becoming giants solving lots of food insecurity challenges and creating prosperity in the process of doing so.

This we have done over the last few years and another opportunity is open again.

Six months intensive farm training and mentorship programme.

Successful applicants must be ready to live and stay on the farm.

Monthly stipends for successful applicants.

Feeding is free

Successful applicants must be ready to start his/her farm projects as soon as the 6 months is elapsed on the farm estate

After the duration of the six months training, lands, input, breeding livestock, soft loans are given to all trainees to commence their farm business on any of our farm estates.

Whatever you sow, come back to you in hundred folds

Remember that adage"Whatever you sow,you reap"
Using my knowledge background in agriculture, that's partially correct.

In agriculture, that adage is not true
If you sow a grain, you will reap a whole maize cob with hundreds of grains.
If you sow a 5cm stem, you reap many cassava tubers and a 2m cassava stem/s
If you sow a cashew seed, you reap hundred of cashew seeds..
If you sow a soybeans seed, you reap hundreds of soybeans seeds
It's better to say " whatsoever you sow,you reap hundreds folds of it
As a farmer, that's how I think and that's the reality and. That's why we must watch our actions
Do not do to others what you don't want to be done to you because if you do,you will reap it back in hundred fold no matter the time it take
Like corn which takes 3months to reap after sowing
It may take a week,3 months,,a year,a decade or less
That's sounds moral?
Well,welcome to life 101 realities

As you go out today, make sure you sow the seeds of goodness, integrity, passion for your business and in your workplace because whatever you sow ,you reap hundred folds.

I have a friend on our farm estate who didn't know many years ago, that apart from palm oil,you can derive many other products from oilpalm plantation until I educated him about the wealth creating potential of cultivating one.
I introduced him to oilpalm cultivation

From 100 acres of oilpalm,he has now expand it to 300 acres.

Although palm oil is the common and popular products from oilpalm farm but did you know that palm kernel cake, palm kernel.oil, broom which are derivative products of oilpalm processing generates triple of the revenue generated by sales of palm oil?

As I write, the prices of oilpalm derivatives in both the local and international markets are way up on a daily basis

For every X million of naira he generates from palm oil,pkc and other derivatives bring him 3X million, not to talk of other short term crop he intercrop with his oilpalm farm.

Last year,he told me that he is retiring to his farm once age limit catches up with him in the civil service.

Oilpalm farm is one of the asset you should consider to own for a prosperous future and you can own oilpalm farm on any of our farm estates in ijebu-igbo,Ogun state

Integrity is all that matters!

Integrity is one most important value you should imbibe if you want to go far in life.

It's one of the rarest and scarcest commodity in the world.
People with one are very few.

It's simply doing what you promise you'll do and saying what you can do and cannot do.

If you know that you won't or can't do it,then let the other person know before you promise heaven and Earth and fails to fulfil it.

You promise to deliver a certain results at a particular time but you fail to do so,if you can't do so,why promise or say so in the first place?

Integrity is all that matters
Your business depends on it
Your life depends on it
Your staying in that job depends on it.

You say that you will meet a deadline, make sure you do your best to meet it even if it will require you going the extra mile to see it accomplish at the time stated.

Recently,I relocated the local farmers on one of our farm estates to another farm location in the same area telling them that they can use their new location for few years because we wanted to use some hundreds of acres in the location they were initially for personal cultivation and for partners.

Last 2 weeks,I noticed we would have to re-relocate them to another area entirely.

What should we do?
We have already told them to be cultivating there and most have already started cultivating the land there,
I have already given them my word,
If I will be re-relocating them, that will go against my word.
So we have to change our own plan and find another new location for the farm projects that will accommodate us.

Although it was not convenient to change our own plans but had to do so because doing otherwise will be against the principle, culture of integrity.

I am also happy that the cultivation timelines I promise all of those on our estates are met
That's integrity
It was not convenient but it was

Do what you say you would do,
Don't say what you know that you can't do or wouldn't do
Ultimately,do unto others what you want others do to you

Investing in agriculture is not for the unemployed or job seekers except you have financial backers.
This is because it requires lot of money for you to be able to start a tangible agricbusiness.

I remember that I once advice someone on this platform not to venture into agriculture.
Many were surprised that I could do that.
But it is what it is.

Get a job first, save and then invest in agriculture to have another source of income.

Agriculture will not make you rich quick.
I burst your bubble right?
It's not that kind of business that you start today and start making money tomorrow.
It require a consistent efforts over time and once it's established, you can be assured of continuous stream of income for life.
My grandfather oilpalm business that was started many decades ago and still feeds many mouths and tens of tons of palmoil shared quarterly among his children.

There is a lot of mindset you need to change about agriculture so you don't get frustrated and discouraged

Investment in agriculture is the best kept secrets in this continent.

Rising population,

rising inflation,

lots of cheaper laborers,

millions of hectares of uncultivated farmland,
dwindling government revenue from oil,
I advice my friends,and family,
about 6 years ago to venture into agriculture
Those that did are happy they did

I am also advising now,
if you are reading this that you should venture into agribusiness.

Learn the rope,
get mentored, and Go for it.
You want to learn ,you can join our agribusiness millionaires training programme

You can also acquire your farmland in any of our farm estates in Ogun, oyo, kwara and osun states.

You have interest in agriculture? right? Good
You also want to make millions from agribusiness? Right

But you don't have interest in having basic know-how about the agricbusiness, then you are a joke

Seek and thirst for knowledge always.

Last year,I registered for a agric training programme to upgrade.
It was expensive but that's the price to pay.
Getting life changing know-how will cost you and you must be willing to pay the price.

You need to have proper knowledge of the weather situation in the area, knowledge of price, history of the people around your location, knowledge of the soil in your location etc and the thing is that they differ from region to region.

As an agropreneur with farm business in many states of the country,I have come to discover that even the knowledge/strategy required for each location is totally different in each of the locations we operate in.

I remember telling my team when we first got to Ijebu to establish our farm estates to seek knowledge from the locals on the weather situation, what's mostly grown there, the people, the foods, etc

Unfortunately,we taught we could cultivate what we are used to in other regions without taking cognance of what's obtainable in Ijebu and we didnot meet our target for the first farm operations.

Knowledge is the gap between success and failure.

The more you learn, the higher your potential of earning.

Unfortunately, knowledge in agriculture is practical and dynamic (ever changing) so you need regular upgrade.

Some people are very smart here, they know little or nothing about agriculture but are intelligent to partner, collaborate with people who has the expertise and knowledge

Well,in anyway you get your knowledge, make sure you have knowledge as a leverage in any venture especially as it pertains to agricbusiness.

Go to where you can get it

It's one of the important leverage you need without which you might not reach your goal

Knowledge is the KEY.

THIRST for it
