German car maker BMW is celebrating its 100th anniversary, and during the year it revealed some concept cars designed to illustrate what the cars of the future will look like. After presenting three concept cars this year as part of its Vision Next 100, the company yesterday unveiled a prototype of the future BMW Motord motorcycle - which keeps its own power, and is so secure that there's no need for wear. Helmet.

The motorcycle, which BMW unveiled at an event in California, USA, aims to provide a glimpse of what two-wheeled vehicles will look like in 30 years, the company said. The bike does not pollute the air at all, although the company has not announced whether this is an electric motorcycle.

In contrast to existing motorcycles, Motord is made from a single flexible carbon fiber unit, so any movement of the handlebar does not shift the front wheels, but rather the entire bike frame. Besides, there's a stability system that ensures the motorcycle won't fall (and eliminates the need for a kickstand when parking), although BMW hasn't explained how the system works.

A motorcyclist does not need to wear a helmet while driving thanks to the technological means to warn the rider of dangers on the road. Instead, the rider wears an augmented reality headset that displays real-time information such as the bike's tilt angle, satellite navigation instructions and the motorcycle's rear-view camera view. The rider's visual range is divided into four viewing areas so that they do not need to take their eyes off the road.

BMW notes that the communication between the passenger, the motorcyclist, and the outside world, which enables wearable computing, helps anticipate dangerous situations on the road. In combination with other active assistance systems, the communication ensures that the rider is in complete control of the motorcycle, allowing the prediction of hazards on the road and warning the rider when certain actions are required.

The motorcycle's power unit contracts when the motorcycle is stationary, but during a ride the tips expand to improve aerodynamics and to protect the rider from wind and weather.

“Usually, when we develop a motorcycle, we tend to think about five to ten years ahead. In this case, we are looking much further ahead,” said Edgar Heinrich, chief designer at BMW's motorcycle division, at the Motord unveiling event of the exposure. According to BMW Technologies, the motorcycle will be available to consumers more than a decade later.
