The breasts can develop various types of disorders. Not all changes or lumps in the breast tissue mean that one has breast cancer. In fact, the vast majority of breast conditions (90%) are not cancerous .

WHAT ARE BREAST LUMPS?

A breast lump is a growth of tissue that develops within the breast. It may be described as a mass, growth, swelling, thickness or fullness. It is a symptom/sign for a variety of breast conditions.
Breast lump can be Benign ( Non- cancerous) or Malignant ( Cancerous).
Causes of breast Lumps:
Breast lumps can be caused by infections, injuries, non-cancerous growths, and cancer.
Types of breast lumps :
1.Cysts and breast abscess,
2. fatty lumps ,
3. Lumps due to infection ( mastitis)
4. Growths such as Fibroadenomas: Hyperplasia of the breast, Breast cancer.


BREAST CANCER
Breast cancer refers to a malignant tumor that has developed from breast cells. Cancer cells can also break away from tumors and travel, or metastasize, to other parts of the body through the bloodstream or lymph system. In this manner, cancer can spread and form secondary tumors in other parts of the body.
Breast cancer spread range from Stage 1 to Stage IV. Stage IV is the most advanced form of breast cancer. At this stage, breast cancer cells have spread to other areas of the body. Breast cancer most often spreads to the bones, brain, liver and lungs. Stage IV breast cancer is also called metastatic breast cancer.

Breast Cancer Risk factors
• Age. The risk of developing breast cancer roughly doubles for every 10 years of age. Most cases develop in women over the age of 50.
• Environmental factors.
• Family history and genetic testing : About 1 in 20 cases of breast cancer are caused by a faulty gene which can be inherited.
• Being childless, or having the first child after the age of thirty.
• Not having breast-fed ones children.
• Early age of starting periods.
• Chest being exposed to radiation.
• Having a menopause over the age of 55.
• Taking continuous combined hormone replacement therapy several years (in women over 50 years), leading to a slightly increased risk.
• Excess alcohol.
• A number of older studies suggested that birth control pills slightly increased the risk of breast cancer, especially among younger women

Signs And Symptoms Of Breast Disease And Breast Cancer.
• A lump or breast mass
• Swelling of the breast
• Breast Skin irritation or other skin abnormalities, such as redness or dimpling
• Breast pain. Note: pain is not a usual early symptom.
• Nipple pain or the nipple turning inward
• Nipple discharge other than milk
• A change in shape or position of the nipple
• Redness, scaliness, or thickening of the nipple or breast skin
• A lump in the underarm area. The first place that breast cancer usually spreads to is the lymph glands (nodes) in the armpit (axilla).
• A change in the size, shape, or contour of the breast
• The skin on the breast has an "orange" like texture. (Bumpy, rough.)
• Breast Skin that is hot to the touch.
