Same thing I've been facing for 4days now and it's the same mtn number, obviously WhatsApp can't send verification code to mtn numbers,I even tried 5 other mtn numbers and its still the same thing,endless 1hr

You have a bad internet network issue from the provider.
Use another internet service provider with a very strong internet service/network,that's all

I don't know if this is the issue with you, however, if your line has been barred by your network provider due to error or non linkage of NIN ( that'd mean that you cant receive calls or sms)... you won't receive WhatsApp verification Otp. I had same issue. I just open WhatsApp with my other number

I uninstalled my Whatsapp app by mistake, I try installing it back but is telling me i can't install it. Please someone should help me.
I still have enough space on my phone......
