Abia takes its name from the acronym for four of the state's most populated regions: Aba, Bende, Isuikwuato, and Afikpo (but Afikpo was later joined with a part of Enugu state to create Ebonyi state in 1996).

''The name Abia has multiple origins and meanings depending on the cultural and geographic context.

1. Hebrew origin: In Hebrew, Abia (אֲבִיָּה) is a variant of the name Abijah, which means "my father is Yahweh" or "Yahweh is my father."...

2. Nigerian Igbo origin: In the Igbo culture of Nigeria, Abia is a unisex name that means "Great One" or "God is great."''

The acronym suited an already existing word, just like Anioma (Asaba, Ndokwa, Ika) = ANI which already a word meaning "land". Oma was added to make it Anioma = Good land

In Aba, there is a place called Obikabia in Ngwa dialect (Obi nke Abia in general Igbo) which translates to "The heart of Abia" and the place has been there before anything like Abia state was created

In Yoruba, it is Abiya. Abijah has its counterpart in Yoruba as Abija. Yorùbá words never have a 'h' ending.

Should we say Yoruba is Jewish too?

You guys should stop posting rubbish. @ op do you know the meaning of abia in jewish language?

Do you think that there will is no words similarity between Igbo and Arab too?

So if you see something like Imo in Koran, does that mean that we have link with Arab?

Abeg tell them. Ndi Igbrew from Anambra state especıally Aguleri and Umuleri should leave us out of their confusion and iberiberism. Abia state does not share same meaning with Abia found in the Bible.

Not only are some Igbo villages and towns in the bible, the easiest way to prove Igbos are ancient people and the people the Bible talked about is Genesis 46:16, where it mentions children of Gad, the son of Jacob. Four of his sons have Igbo names, not English names. One of them Eri, is said to be one of the Igbo ancestors, with temples and artifacts in Agulueri today to prove this.

Asa is also a community in Abia

Not a community but rather a Local government precisely. Just as Aba is called Ngwa, Ukwa West is called Asa and then Ukwa East is known as Ndoki.

What a foolish and stupid question.

Go back up and read the meaning of the word in both languages, which I posted.

Virtually identical meaning.

Am a typical Onitsha/Igbo man not a jew. Try respect yourself and generation.

The ancient Hebrews were blacks and major evidence points to Igbos and some other African groups.

It has nothing to do with whether you like it or not.

Why do you think the British put a Star of David on the Kobo coin?

There is a lot you are ignorant about.

''On the 14th day of January 2022 [12 Shebat 5782], the Jewish Rabbinate of the Obadya Alliance [Dayan Jacob de Oliveira, Dayan Eliezer Tabor, Dayan Yehonatan Elazar-DeMota, Rabbi Hananiah Cohen, and Rabbi Haim Ovadia] ruled that the Igbos of Nigeria are descendants of ancient Israelites.

According to the Rabbinate, “the presence of Israelites along the Niger River had been known by Jewish authorities in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Lithuania, and Suriname. Rabbinic letters addressed to the Igbos by Chief rabbis: Dr. Solomon Hershel Lewin, David Meldola, and the Gaon of Vilna (Elijan Zalman), support the idea that there was contact between European Jewish communities and Igbo Israelites. All of the correspondence from the aforementioned rabbinic authorities address the Igbos as “brethren of the Children of Israel.” Accordingly, there is no doubt of their origins, nor of their halakhic status as Israelites.”

According to the Rabbinate....... the data of the majority of those who have reported their autosomal and y-chromosome DNA, supports that their ancestors migrated from the Levant Basin, sharing genetic links with Sephardic and Ashkenazi Jews alike. The Rabbinate noted the fact that rabbinic authorities during the Songhai Empires were aware of Israelites in Igboland, which leads to the logical conclusion that they treated Igbos as Israelites.

The final conclusion of the Obadya Alliance Rabbinate was that “Igbos are to be treated as Israelites, in every sense of the word, and also their priestly and Levite lineages should be upheld as valid.”

The Rabbinate advised that upon the return of the Igbos to Omenana (what you do in the Land), they should be circumcised [if they hadn’t performed it already], say the sheheḥeyánu afterwards, and partake in the kola nut ceremony with their brethren, as is customary among Igbos.''

One Penny coin of Nigeria during British rule featuring the Star of David (known in Igboland as the Star of Eri).

THEY KNOW YOU MORE THAN YOU KNOW YOURSELF.

Just as was prophesied in Deuteronomy 28, that you would lose the knowledge of who you were, and others would claim your identity.

Ancient Hebrews being led off ito Assyrian captivity, 2,800 years ago (720 BC).

Note kinky African hair. They actually LOOK like Igbos. Certainly like people from the West and Central African forest regions. That white outfit they have on with the gown just above the ankles, is still worn TODAY by Igbo traditional priests.
