Is Poultry Business Advisable In Nigeria To Embark On? by TeleboiZ005(m): 9:35am On May 17
Hello, been a while here on Nairaland. Was a still a teen when I created an account here but here I'm in my middle 20's heading to my 30's lol.

Nigeria economy is really draining me out, online stuffs aren't clicking for me. Luckily for me, I have someone abroad who I can beg and solicit for funds to start up something lucrative. Tinubu's economy isn't a child's play. Like if you don't have anything doing, I'm sorry for you.

I've not been successful in my tertiary education, but all hope isn't lost. I just need to build up financially and then venture again into schooling. Well, people still graduate at the age of 30, 35, 40 etc. I won't be the first or last to be in that category.

Back to the agenda of the day. I have this zeal of starting up a poultry business. I mean a farm where I can rear chickens, chicken waste as manures, eggs and other chicken end-product. The idea has been giving me sweet imaginations and promising success. I know there are risk involve. Literally, because every business comes with a risk and for a business like raising a chick to the point of maturity isn't a days work. I can still remember in my secondary school, probably in my SS3, our Inter Science started a poultry farm (He taught us Inter science in our junior secondary years actually). He had only layers and brought them from when they were just day old chicks. He raised them till they got a lil bigger (6-7 weeks I think), then over 60 died out of about 150. I heard they were vaccinated for some illness or so. I cant really tell why they died in such numbers but it was really painful and devastating to watch them fowls being quarantined and the dead ones being buried. Risk like this exist in all businesses.

I'm willing to do anything to curb such unspeakable experience. That's why I need poultry experts and elites to help me with some submissions. I need guidelines. The economy isn't a joke and I know things are very expensive. Feeds are triple the price of what it was. The medicine and vaccinations are still on the high side.

Also, what's the cost of starting a poultry business of lemme say a quantity of 50-70 layers. Is it really ADVISABLE to start it with our present economic conditions?

Do I need to go learn or watch poultry farmers as they go on with their daily tasks before eventually involving myself into it?

Thank you as you help me out with all the curiosities.

Dont waste your money on poultry///
Cost of feeding is high...
Cost of birds are high....
Broiler will die even with best practices...
Getting buyers is a major task...
Margin is slim..with slim room for error...
If you can get a place to rear cows...even if it is one or two
It is better and profitable
