OK. Welcome back.

"What? This is not part of the agreement sir."
"Well, that means that the police will get to hear what truly happened to Loveth."
"Please don't do that, I will co-operate."
"Good! Then I guess that another 1.2 million is on its way to your account. Calistus said. I expected you to be a bit happier, Francis."
"I am, sir, just that i feel a little guilty that I am doing this to him. He may have his flaws but.........."
"But what?"
"Nothing sir, I will adjust."
"Everytime you feel guilty about him, remember all the evil he has done, all the people he has dealt an evil hand with, then tell yourself that you are doing the right thing."
"Yes sir."
"And remember if I hear that you told anyone about this, you will die a painful death."
Calistus walked away, smiling. Now it remained the landlord and his gossiping caretaker wife.

Adaobi walked towards the kitchen, trying to cut some beef but failing miserably. Since she saw that kitchen knife used on her mom, to do anything in there had become quite difficult. To make it worse, the revelation that Ebuka, the one person that should have protected her actually killed her and another person in an unrelated incident just makes it almost impossible to do anything logical.
She knew that he hated mother and that he had ego issues, but to kill her is just not him. If he was to kill someone, it would be Calistus.
Ding! Dong! The doorbell rang
, prompting her to leave the kitchen and open the door.
"Good morning, Ada, Detective Arinze said with a smile. Can I come in?"

Adaobi stared at him, surprised to see the detective.
"Hope I did not interrupt anything, no naughty guy trying to hew some honey from you."

"I don't understand sir."
"Oh, I guess that you won't." Detective Arinze said, sitting down. "Ada, I need your help as regards your brother's case. You know how bad it is."
She nodded her head.
"Truth is that it may become worse because many people are turning up to testify against him. In fact they are up to 20."
"What! Thats not possible!" Adaobi shouted. "How come there are so many people ready to testify against him. Have anyone stepped forward for his defence?"

"No. I guess that he is not well liked in his area. That's why I need your help. You see, I believe that he is innocent but the case is quite convincing."

"How can I help?"

"I want you to think of anybody close to him that would want him dead."

"I don't know anyone like that sir."

"Think about it, Ada. Its only someone that is close to him that will set him up this well."

Adaobi sighed. "I will try."

"Please do." Detective Arinze said, standing up to leave. "Where does Calistus work?"

"He works for Arizona International, one of my mom's companies."

"What is his role in the company?"

"He is the general manager."

Detective Arinze twitched his nose. "Ok."

As he left the mansion, Detective Arinze decided to collect his thoughts. He spent the whole of last night thinking about this case. He had questioned Ebuka earlier that day and although he was reluctant to speak initially, he did eventually talk, and the discussion convinced Detective Arinze that he was not dumb, just a bit hot-tempered. That said, it changed nothing.

Until he remembered what Ada said about the mother's will. He put two and two together before he realized that killing the woman did not favor Ebuka at all, especially as he was been hunted for another case.

Meaning that someone had committed the murder and pinned the death on him. Someone wanted him to be discovered

"So what did you get from Ribadu street, Calistus?" Mr Bamidele asked. He, Calistus and Adaobi were in the sitting room,

"Nothing. Most of them were reluctant to speak and those who spoke seemed to dislike him, so they were adding their sentiments to the story."

"What story?"

"The story of Ebuka impregnating a young girl and killing her."

"I thought it was an abortion case?" Ada asked.

"That's why I said that they were adding their sentiments."

Mr Bamidele scratched his head. "I hoped for something more. His case starts two weeks from now. We have to find answers by then"
Re: With Velvet Gloves. by rapmike(m): 2:45pm On Apr 24, 2017
As they stood up from the meeting, Adaobi walked towards Calistus.

"Calistus, do you know anybody that hated our brother?"

"No, apart from everyone in Ribadu Street."

"Ok, what about you? Or mummy?"

"I don't understand, Ada."

"I meant if there is anyone who wants to harm you or mummy that is doing this?"

Calistus scratched his head. "No. I don't remember anyone I offended in particular and for the past ten years mom has maintained a low profile. No body comes to mind."

Ada nodded and then left for her room.

Detective Kolade woke up dizzy. His mind and body were trying to catch up with one another after a whirlwind of a Bleep fest. Four girls within 36 hours and his dick was recounting the experience even after he had slept.

Coldplay 'Clocks' sauntered the room as he stretched over the body of a naked girl to pick his call.

"Kolade, where you dey?" He instantly recognized the voice of Detective Arinze.

"I dey Karimat's place. Anything?"

"Guy, show for my place. I discovered something."

captivating story . well done Sir
Re: With Velvet Gloves. by rapmike(m): 2:34pm On Apr 25, 2017
Detective Kolade quickly left the brothel he was in and got a taxi leading to Detective Arinze's house.

"What did you find this morning that warrants my attention?" He asked as soon as he entered into the house.

"Kolade, look at this financial reports." Detective Arinze said, pointing to the documents on the table. Kolade walked into the living room and picked the weekly financial reports of Arizona International.

"So, there is nothing suspicious here." Detective Kolade commented.

"Then look at these reports."

Detective Kolade stretched his hands and received the financial reports of Arizona International but this time they were from Bank of Nigeria, Arizona's official bank.

"The profit margins are widely different, how did you come across this?"

Detective Arinze grinned. "I have an informant in there that smuggled this information. What do you think?"

"It seems like someone wants to keep all the profit for himself, but he can't obviously do that so he does the next best thing-steal as much money as possible."

"And he must have worked with the bank manager, a certain Mr Mogu."

"What does this have to do with Madam Okonkwo's case?"

"Well, Arizona International is the only company that she owned that is listed in the NSE(Nigerian Stock Exchange). Guess who is the managing the company."

"Ebuka?"

"No, its Calistus."

"It still explains nothing."

"Well, my source told me that the Madam Okonkwo was coming to the company to check the financial details. That was suppose to be the Monday after her death. Yet this was only told to the staff of both the company and the bank on Friday evening via text."

"Meaning that between Friday and Monday, someone got desperate enough to kill her in order to avoid exposure."

Detective Kolade returned all the documents to Detective Arinze. "What do you plan to do now?"

"I plan to get a search warrant for the company and arrest Mr Mogu."

"Don't."
"Don't do what?"
"Don't arrest Mr Mogu. If you do, you will create a scene and whoever is responsible will clean his tracks quickly. So let relax and try to obtain the required information through other means."

"Nice insight." Detective Arinze said, reclining on the chair.

"That's why I am you senior here. Relax bro, we will solve this together. Meanwhile, Chichi is waiting for me."

"Guy, your d*ck no go kill you."

Francis looked at his phone, the alert informing him of the cash deposited by Calistus. He wanted out of this thing as quick as possible but Calistus had other ideas. He imagined himself in court lying against an innocent man about his daughter.

All for the money.

Its not like that. He told himself. He needed the money for Loveth, for she was ill and needed money for the chemotherapy. Cancer had affected her appenditicus, now its threatening her lungs. It was strange and unfair for Francis: middle-aged, with no property in the world save his Suzuki bike and his clothes. His only source of comfort was Loveth, who was lovely and obedient until Ebuka came.

Ebuka! He silently exclaimed, remembering how many times the arrogant twerp insulted him, stepped on his toes without any sense of remorse. Now he has the chance to pay back everything in one shot and his mind chose that time to remember about its conscience! No, he will not allow it. He wont be like the man who sees the snake that killed his child then leaves it alone instead of killing it. Moreover, it was Ebuka that pushed her to abort the pregnancy.

'Busy body' by Psquare suddenly broke the silence that premeated the house, indicating a phone number that he had not seen before. He quickly answered it.

"Good afternoon, Mr Francis. I am Detective Kolade and I will like to meet you."

For the second time in three days, Adaobi was visiting Ebuka.

"Has anyone come to check on you since the last time I came here?"

Ebuka shook his head, his mouth angrily engaging the rice Ada had brought in a food flask.

"You have become lean, Ebuka and your eyes are red."

"I am seeing hell here." Ebuka said, temporarily removing his mind and mouth from the rice. "Any luck with the charges against me?"

"No. I still spoke to our lawyer yesterday, he said he was hoping to plead for mercy on your case."

"So he has declared me guilty, abi?"

"Its not like that. We are all trying our best. Ebuka stop crying." Ada said, as tears started to roll down his cheeks.

"Who will do this to me? Who did I offend to warrant this wickedness? I have never offended anyone so bad to deserve this. God! God!!!

"Oga, better calm down, don't disturb us with your shouts." His cell inmates warned.

"Ebuka, calm down. We will find who did this. But I need you to open up. Who did you offend most recently?"

"I don't know."

"Ebuka, please try and think about it. Detective Arinze came to me and asked a similar question. He believes that someone set you up."

"Does it change anything?"

"Yes, it does. If he can shift the focus of the investigation away from you, they may find something that will lead to us catching the real culprit."

"Time's up! Madam, begin dey waka!" The warden said a bit harshly.

Ada stared at him incredulously before she started standing up.

"Ada, don't go. Please stay a little longer, Oga abeg......"

"Abeg wetin? Na only you dey this cell? Abi all those guys wey dey here no get family abi?"

"Tell am oh! Wey he dey do like say na only im person put for here."

Ada looked at his eyes. "Don't give up hope, Ebuka." She then left.

Detective Kolade was smiling as he left Mr Francis' home. He was aware of how the neigbourhood looked before coming here, but now that he had arrived he found the experience surprising, the serenity of the environment occasionally disrupted by trucks that moves soft drinks from one store to the other.

He was about entering a bus leading out of Ikoyi when someone tapped him.

"You are Detective Kolade, right?"

"Yes, I am. What can I do for you?"

"I am Mr Adeshina Matthews, Excellent Secondary school, where Ebuka Okonkwo taught. I have to speak with you about Ebuka,"

"What about him?"

Mr Matthew took a deep breath. "I heard that Mr Francis finally decided to take him to court over his daughter."

"You said 'finally'. Why?"

"Yes. You see, the girl's case is not a new one. When Ebuka started to work in my school, Loveth was completely infatuated with him. I never knew why, until her father came one Friday morning, dragging Loveth with him. He claimed that she was pregnant and tried to pin it on Ebuka. Of course he denied it and continued teaching the students. By 1.00pm in the afternoon, some police officers came to arrest him, accusing him of kidnapping Loveth."

"That same afternoon?"

"Yes. We all tried defending him and we even paid his bail. Later the police investigated and found some faults in Mr Francis accusations and warned him not to go to court. He then resigned for obvious reasons and went home. It was just yesterday that I heard that he will be arraigned soon."

"Can you testify this in court?"

"Yes."

"Okay, I will get in contact with you."

Detective Kolade collected his number and started to leave. As soon as Mr Matthew was out of earshot, he deleted the number on his phone and decided to dodge him until after the case

What he did not know was that fate had another plan in mind.

As soon as Mr Matthew entered his office, he met a particular visitor.

"This is hopeless."
Barr. Osaze uttered that statement in frustration as he and Mr Bamidele looked through files and documents in the lawyer's house, in another part of Ikoyi.
"Barrister, we cannot give up hope, there must be something we can do about this. Ebuka can't just die like that."

"But unless we can produce enough evidence to prove that Ebuka is innocent or that someone else killed Madam Okonkwo, we don't stand a chance."

"I know." Mr Bamidele scratched his head. "Maybe we are searching among the wrong set of people."

"Do you have any other rival or supposed enemy from outside?"
"No."

"Then you are suggesting..........."

"That we search inside the companies she owned."

"Why, I thought you said that everyone loved her."

"Yes, I did. However, that was when I was in charge, which is five years ago. Things would have changed by now."

"So how do we get such documents?"
"No need. I will go there myself."

Re: With Velvet Gloves. by rapmike(m): 8:41pm On Apr 30, 2017
Adaobi left Excellent Secondary school in better spirits than when she entered. According to what the principal said, Ebuka could not be held responsible for the missing girl's disappearance. For all intent and purposes, her father and those in Ebuka's flat had ill feelings for him. She got chased away by the landlord and other occupants were not helpful, they were rather hostile.

She had been driving for 10 minutes when she noticed the blue Yahama bike and the Red Toyota following her baby Benz. She quickly took a left turn and started to speed up. Those tailing her followed suit.
Jesus! She muttered as she suddenly realised that the turn she took was a dead end.

Quickly reaching the end of the road, she came down with her phone and started to run into a footpath. Her pursurers followed suit. As she came to the end of the footpath, she managed to enter one of the shops that was open and tried to pretend that she was buying their goods. Her pursurers fell for the trick and walked past the shop. After 10 minutes, she stepped out and ran through the same footpath to her car. Finding it untouched, she enter into it and quickly drove out, narrowly missing one of her pursurers on the way.

"What did you go to do there?"
Adaobi was narrated what happened to Calistus and Mr Bamidele.

"I went to get some help over Ebuka's case."

"I thought that I told you not to go there at all. Ada, that place is dangerous."

"So did you get any help?"
"None."
"Nothing? Not even........."
"Mr Bamidele, she said she got nothing and I believe her. I went there myself, remember?"

"Yes, thats true. So a week will pass and we have found nothing.
I will see the lawyer tomorrow. It seems like a plea bargain will be the best course."
Ada bowed her head in frustration, while Calistus shook his head.

"I will take my leave. Take care and do not go snooping around."

"Yes sir."

Detective Kolade smiled. They say evil is a bitch, they forgot to say that hate f*cks her for diner, he mused. He never believed that a simple change in the will of Adanna Okonkwo, that paragon of corruption, will escalate to this level. He had heard of this change from a mutual friend. Then, he set the stage for her murder by tipping off a very sensitive person. He knew that something serious will happen, he did not just expect to be at the scene of her death days after. He had researched on her children and knew who to set off. Its just a shame that none of them is smart enough to understand what is happening.

They are all dancing to his tune!

He stood up from his cushioned chair and turned around. He heard Hadiza, his landlord's dark-skinned 16 year old beauty of a daughter singing in her local dialect. He opened the door and blew a kiss. She giggled and went on her way, swaying her virgin ass as Kolade looked on. She was the only one on his 'list' that he had not had sex with.
That was because of his landlord, who was an officer in the army.

Ebuka stared into the ceiling. His cell mates were asleep but he couldn't. A month ago, he was on his bed, relaxing with Ugochi, his babe. Now he is rotting in a jail for a crime he did not commit. Why is life so wicked?

One of the cell mates moved in his sleep, kicking him. Ebuka used his hand to slap the leg away. The receipent did not take it funny.

"Bros, you wan make I slap you for here."

Ebuka eyes lit up in flames, determined to retaliate for anything that will come his way.
Fortunately for him, the cell mate went back to his sleep, kicking another person in the process.

"Who be that na?"

Ebuka quickly moved to another part of the cell, certain that a fight will break out soon.

Paa! A hot slap landed on th offending cell mate, leading to a small fight.

The officers on duty woke up and quickly sorted it out, dragging the two men out.

Ebuka sat down and prayed that God will have mercy on him.

Re: With Velvet Gloves. by rapmike(m): 2:23pm On May 07, 2017
Adaobi woke up with a start. It was Sunday and she remembered one of her mother's last advice.

"Don't use God's time to play. Make sure that you are regular to church and have a relationship with your maker."

She never taught Ada how to do that, but the advice still stayed with her.

Now, with less than a week before Ebuka is arraigned in court, they have only one witness and no compelling evidence for two different cases and a couple of counts. Meanwhile, all lot is happening behind the scene to make sure that Ebuka saw jail term. She had never seen such hate before.

Kneeling down, she closed her eyes.

"God, please help me help my brother. I know that he did not kill mama or anybody, so please help him. Mama always said that you were a just God. Please don't allow injustice to win."

She looked up, hoping for a miraculous call or something that will bring hope. The only thing she heard was the motion of her fan blades as they chased each other in endless motion. When she was younger, she hoped that one day the blades, which were three, will all catch up with one another and be happy, just like her family.

"How naive of me." She said as she left her room for church.

St Mary's Anglician church in Surulere was filled to the brim. The occasion was the celebration of hundred years of the church's existence. Many important members of the society were there, lending the weight of their presence to the event.

In the midst of all this, Adaobi sat quietly at the edge of one of the pews. This was not her church, she was there because she wanted a quiet time compared to what she would get in her church. She did not need the unwanted sympathy that was regular in such gatherings.

Her eyes suddenly settled on a girl of about 16 years. Her hair was braided in a style that looked like 'Pa te wo'. What caught her attention was the neck and the side view of the face.

She was still looking at the lady when the lady stood up and walked towards the exit. Ada stood up to follow when she collided with someone.

Sorry, she said before she saw that the person was Detective Arinze.
