A scenario played out in church involving a Christian woman married to a non Christian man when the woman came to dedicate her new born baby.
The husband was not present in church obviously because he is a non Christian and when the Pastor asked the woman what was the name of the baby ,she mentioned the name and the Pastor told her that it has to be a Christain name and that he was renaming the baby.
I don't think if the woman gets home she will narrate what happened in Church to her husband so as not to cause any chaos in the house.
Intereligious marriages should come out with well spelt out agreements prior to marriages in order to curtail disputes in future.
Just my humble take.

I don't want to be specific about the other religion.

Nigerian pastors don't always know their place. God will call someone to spread the word, and suddenly they're a bishop, a prophet, or even a marriage counselor even though they're not married.

What exactly is a Christian name? English names? Some Christians take these things too far. I remember when a friend didn't want to use only English names as her husband suggested. She insisted on taking his Igbo surname. The man refused, then she said it is either his own or she will keep her own surname because that is like her identity, the surname being Igbo shows where they are from.

Oga still no gree. This caused a big problem, and even the church got involved. When they asked the husband why he objected, he said his native name had something to do with idol worship. But it turned out one of his English names was also related to idols.

These situations make Christianity seem like a joke sometimes.

I don't blame Nigeria pastors, I rather blame the people who place themselves under the sphere of control of these pastors.
Child dedication is totally meaningless anyways.

I believe women should be wiser not to fall in situations like this. A man will tell you anything just to be involved with you but as a woman you should know better. A woman should know her faith and hold on to it so as to avoid unnecessary consequences. I've had a non Christian brother tell me he has no issue with my religion but I know better. Na sweet talk when situation arise nah my own he go be grin grin.

Look at this, I'm sure this non Christian man said there won't be issues when they started but now he won't even follow her to church for their child's dedication. That's crazy.

The pastor in this case is within his right, you can't name a child Ahmed or Fatima or Sangomuyiwa on the pulpit of God in a Church. It is the woman who bit more than she could chew. May God help her

This is very very important

There is an overlap between Arab names and Muslim names made worse by anglicanisation

Yosef, Yusuf and Joseph are all the same names as an example.

The truth about this scenario is some have it well while others don't, getting married to anyone outside your religious belief is a sin on its own accord.

Their religious background and practices are different. Similarly, their style of worship and standards will be different and not static. To go outside your religious practices to marry serves as a rarity to the god you serve even in Islam 🕋

She shot herself in the leg for that, she wanted a show of applaud and celebration but turned sour afterwards.

There is a catholic church named Lady Fatima, shey you know. Most of the names christians think are muslim names are not, they are just arabic names whose origin is from hebrew. Jibrin is gabriel, musa is moses, ibrahim is abraham yakubu is jacob. Jesus is Isa.
