The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued a stern warning to Nigerians regarding the dangers of purchasing and using pre-registered SIM cards.

The Commission stated that the practice is illegal and could lead to severe consequences, including imprisonment.

The NCC reiterated that individuals using pre-registered SIM cards might inadvertently become implicated in serious crimes such as identity theft, financial fraud, kidnapping, and armed robbery.

It said the use of these SIM cards compromises the accuracy of consumer information and hampers efforts to track criminals effectively.

In a statement, the NCC stressed, “Using pre-registered SIM cards undermines the reliability of data collected on consumers, making it challenging for authorities to identify and apprehend the actual perpetrators of crimes.”

The NCC urged Nigerians to avoid buying pre-registered SIM cards and to ensure their SIM cards are properly registered in their names to avoid potential legal repercussions.

We have not been able to track kidnappers using SIM to ask for ransom with phone call.
and you want Nigerian to believe there is danger using per registered sim.

what is even the benefits of registering one sim.

Do they still pre-register lines. One NIN is entitled to 5 lines from one network only.

How do we know is preregistered? You went to mtn agent, they gave you new sim and they registered your name on it. Not knowing the number was preregistered.
I got one like that not until I begin to receive account statements, that is not mine, that I knew it was preregistered sim they sold to me. I had to break and throw it wawy

That's some people's business in Nigeria. They hawk pre-registered sim cards along the roads. They will go out of business if you push this
just like armed robbery is the business of people. But we can not allow them to operate

The post is rubbish.

Criminals can steal your phone and use your sim to commit crime.

The post only exposes how ignorant the law enforcement agencies and judges are.

Sim details should not be used only as an evidence, you have to tie the suspect to the sim card usage at the point the crime was done.
