Sincerely Not Sure I Can Still Continue... by Voarman: 12:36pm On Oct 14, 2023
I'm a 27 year old who decided to go in programming sometime late last year. Prior to that point, I was working and was also into crypto(wasn't getting so much from it, but it was atleast helpful sometimes). But going into programming didn't turn out to be all I thought it would at all. I had to to comit so much time (after work) that it became slightly difficult to concentrate on other stuff which were giving me some little extra money. Right now, I feel like I'm at the tail end of my perseverance and grit. I'm always broke or not having enough to go by. My salary, is not so bad, (#45,000) but its very difficult to go by a full month with it this days. This constantly leaves me frustrated and not being able to concentrate. I didn't mention I got an admission with University of the people, to study CS (commencing the
next month) but Omo I'm tired of always running to colleagues borrowing 2 or 1k regularly. It's so embarrassing right now. Omo make una advice me abeg. Was thinking of quitting, sell the laptop, and look for something else to do....but I'm afraid. I'm going to loose everything I've learnt for over a year now....and I'm not so sure the kind of business the laptop money could potentially start(bought the laptop 130k last year) And the adminision and dream of being a gradute atleast by 30, is not going to realised again. My mind don full, I don tire like this, make una advice me abeg!

Bro we are in a digital era that programming will be come the bane of society in the nearest future pls continue it so long u have time for your 45 rack job.

On the graduate issue u go get time go school because if u eventually start school the 45k work that u are doing to hold body u might not be able to keep up with it that programming job u fit rely on because u be your own boss and it will be easy to map out time for the work

My advice here is nothing good comes easy this days but with time u go learn how to carry everything along it's just a matter of time

Hi bro please what is the name of the university.

"University of the people (uopeople)" its a fully accredited, 100% recognised and tuition free US university.

It's very very legit! So many people in Nigeria dey attend the university. You can make your research about it! Only thing be say, if you finally decide to apply, there's a section during your application where you'll be asked if you think there's anything at all you can be able to pay, just say no and proceed with the rest....I'll be willing to assist sha, if you decide to apply and find issues duringapplication. Their Computer science program is very standard, world standard if you ask me.

You will still pay a $120 assessment fee at the end of each course. Give or take you will be spending at least $3500, although there are scholarship options.

I feel your pain, your story is relatable.
Thank God you have something at hand doing.
Since you know about crypto, you could also have channeled your programing knowledge to Blockchain Dev. There are remote jobs that pays tangibly for junior roles. I could sense you are into cyber security or ethical hacking. That's not bad either, you may not make the dow faster like others, but you are on the right step already.
In the interim, connect with people on discord, telegram who are into the same stuff you are learning currently, you can see gigs through them if you are willing to earn. Nothing is impossible, you just need to be focused. Picking this skill today, dropping it for another tomorrow are part of a disoriented life.

About attending school, you already found UoP, it's a good place to be.

Firstly University of the People is not completely free even with a scholarship. You need to pay assessment fees and application fees. I will always recommend Harvard CS50x.

Secondly, even though there is MONEY in tech, if that same money is your motivation for learning programming, then you are better off learning other things to earn money.

Believe me, the tech space is highly competitive and very very challenging. Seeing others work can make you look down on yourself or even feel depressed.

I went into tech so that I could automate my betting stuff, I was amazed seeing what others have already done in terms of automation smartbet.io is a perfect example. Now my main goal of going into tech is curiosity and expanding my arsenal using tech.

On a closing note, I strongly recommend you work an alternative to at least settle your basic needs like food, shelter, and health. Then tech can be on a long-term goal. MONEY being a motivating factor for learning programming has always lead to an unhappy ending. I wish you well.

dream of being a gradute atleast by 30; wrong mindset.
Should instead be focused on being financially secure by 30.
Don't sell the laptop. You're going the school route, which is more long term, so get a job to sustain you better.
Then sacrifice everything else so that outside the job its strictly school (computer science) and coding.
In about a year or so you should have sufficiently skilled up to start earning from Tech.
You can then quit your regular job, while joggling your Tech gig and school alone.

Tech has the power to rescue you from poverty forever. Never ever forsake it.
