EXCLUSIVE: OBJ, IBB, Anenih prepare 5-point plan for Jonathan •Recommend review of mini convention; resolution of Adamawa, Rivers excos, NGF crises, among others

IT emerged on Saturday that the Elders Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which met with the warring factions of the party in Abuja on Friday has prepared a five-point action plan for the attention of President Goodluck Jonathan.

The committee, which was led by former President Olusegun Obasanjo and included former military leader, General Ibrahim Babangida, and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party, Chief Tony Anenih, had, on Saturday, wrapped up the five-point action plan, which it believes would aid President Jonathan in resolving the logjam in the party.

Sources reveal that the elders’ committee’s recommendation to the president included the reinstatement of the PDP Adamawa State chapter loyal to Governor Murtala Nyako, reinstatement of the executive committee of the Rivers State chapter of the PDP, which is loyal to Governor Rotimi Amaechi, as well as the re-absorption of Governor Rotimi Amaechi into the party, in line with the constitution of the party.

Sources also said that the elders committee also recommended that President Jonathan should intervene and bring an end to the crisis rocking the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) by calling a heart-to-heart meeting with the Plateau State governor, Jonah Jang, and his Rivers State counterpart, Amaechi, to agree on a resolution of the crisis.

Another recommendation of the elders committee, which is to be submitted to the president, is the suggestion that the 31 August mini convention should be reviewed to rectify any anomalies.

Meanwhile, a source said that the issue of Jonathan’s ambition in 2015 was not raised by the aggrieved G7 governors, whose faction is now led by Alhaji Baraje.

It was confirmed that the elders mandated former President Obasanjo to get the recommendations forwarded to President Jonathan immediately.

All the 7 governors want is the grounds to leave PDP without loosing their positions - that is grounds of division as stipulated in the constitution.
Hence, they will never be satisfied unless GEJ hands over the control of PDP to them, which means no 2015 for Jonathan.
So the five point Aganda is a joke, assenting to it will not quench the crisis but embolden the governors to demand for more.

GEJ should call them bluff, let them leave PDP. Two years is enough time to find and empower alternatives in their states. Take more seriously impeaching or prosecuting these Governors for stolen funds. The more time you waste on these negotiations, the less time you have to rebuild PDP structures in their states. Start Kicking, and most of the law makers and senators in their support will retrace their steps.

Resolving this factional issue within PDP won't really help President GEJ, rather the likes of Atiku should be encouraged iNigeria their folly. That will make President GEJ 2015 reelection very easy.

Well that is your opinion. My opinion is that Amechi and the 7 dwarfs should publicly declare their support for GEJ contesting 2015 and then all their demands will be assented to. I really wonder who OBJ is deceiving playing two sides.
Power is taken and never given. GEJ is yet to understand that fundamental rule of leadership.

GEJ and his political handlers are political neophytes. When we were warning that he cannot fight amaechi crudely the way he was going about it and hope to win, his myopic supporters were shouting us down. His equally myopic chairman(bamanga tukur) made his case worse by suspending any governor that did not pick up his phone call or greet him, and hijacking the party structure from governors he is not comfortable with. They forgot that the governors together are more powerful politically than the president. They made his case more precarious by antagonizing influential members of the party like OBJ, IBB etc. So what happened to the attack dogs and lions in this latest onslaught on GEJ, where is their voices and grammatical assaults? What happened to Clark (his most trusted advisor). We are expecting the hollow treats from the usual suspects. The only people that can help GEJ out of the logjam is OBJ, abdulsalami, and most importantly Amaechi. OBJ, IBB and abdulsalami can rally support of the north, while Amaechi can rally support of the renegade governors. Wike, Clark, akpabio and jang are political liabilities.

i do not like IBB, OBJ or abdulsalami, but the reality on ground is that these trio has the military backing, political connections, diplomatic connection and most importantly resources to determine the fate of Nigeria. Ignore them at your peril.

Time for GEJ to move on. Those are not 'elders', but criminals with sordid records. They have misruled Nigeria for so long that they now think the country is their personal real estate. In democracy, it shouldn't be so. And here is the main reason for supporting GEJ at this time. If he's able to clip the wings of these godfathers, then true democracy would have arrived in Nigeria.

Nonsense. Why GEJ would be prevented from contesting in 2015? Must he only contest under PDP? Last time I check, there are over 40 political parties in Nigeria. Let him move to APGA, AC, NCP etc if PDP rejects him. Has he exhausted his goodlucks and ' I have no shoe' nonsenses.
