Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development in Lagos State, has disclosed that over 80 percent of buildings in Ibeju Lekki lack approval.

In a recent interview with journalists, Olumide highlighted the lack of adherence to approval procedures in the area, emphasizing the necessity of zoning regulations and proper permits for construction.

According to Olumide, many estates in Ibeju Lekki are operating without approval, despite the mandatory requirement for zoning information, fence permits, and layout permits. He underscored the challenges posed by unauthorized development, warning against the consequences of disregarding zoning regulations.

Jide Odusolu, the CEO of Octo5 Holdings, echoed concerns about the distortion of the Lekki Peninsula’s master plan post-2010, attributing it to rapid development and a lack of adherence to regulations. He emphasized the need for investigations into developers’ compliance with infrastructure requirements and government support.

Femi Oyedele, the Managing Director of Fame at Oyster & Co. Nigeria, advocated for coordinated planning and infrastructure development to address the chaotic development in Lekki. He called for a strategic approach to urban restoration, drawing parallels with successful urban planning initiatives in other cities.
