World Trade Center Abuja - Under Construction

FCT World Trade Centre project progressing speedily - Minister
Thursday, 24 May 2012

Work on the 1.2 billion dollar 37-storey FCT Trade Centre project is progressing ``speedily'', Sen. Bala Mohammed, the minister has said.

Mohammed, while speaking on Thursday, said that work on the project, which started in March 2011, had reached the fifth floor. He said the Phase I of the project was expected to be completed in June 2013.

The project is being undertaken under a Public Private Partnership arrangement between First Continental Properties Limited, a subsidiary of ChurchGate Investment Limited, and the Abuja Investment Company Limited, a parastatal agency of the FCT Administration.

Mohammed said that when completed, the mega multi-use complex, consisting of high rise residential and service apartment towers, including conference facilities and retail shopping mall, would make Abuja the next business destination.

He said the FCT administration was giving the investors the necessary support to ensure timely completion of the project, located `strategically' at the Central Business District, the heart of the city.

Mohammed said his administration had also awarded another PPP project to a British consortium to develop 777 hectares of land in Kantape District, adding that the project would be replicated in Mabushi, Kado, Kaura and some other districts.

He said the FCT administration was reviewing the Engineering Infrastructure Design for Mabushi, Kado, Gwarinpa I and Durumi districts.

The minister said the administration would grant some percentage of land in the districts or part of the districts to real estate developers, and in exchange the investors would be expected to provide the necessary infrastructure in the district.

''Like an island of prestige and privacy, The World Trade Center Abuja is poised to become the most discerning destination of power and sophistication in Africa. A vibrant cityscape of culture, cuisine, couture shopping and AAA-commerce, it will be perfectly situated in the heart of the Federal Capital Territory, with easy access to the International Airport for businessmen frequently travelling beyond the city...''
