Enugu lawmakers in N200m London trip

Members of Enugu State House of Assembly will today (Tuesday) jet out to London for a seminar on lawmaking which will cost the state government about N200m.


The 31-member delegation will spend two weeks in London where they will have academic sessions with parliamentarians and experts on lawmaking as well as a guided tour of the city.

The delegation include the 24 members of the assembly, the Clerk of the House, the Governor's Liaison Officer to the House, Chuka Utazi and the Adviser to the Governor on Special Projects and Diaspora Matters, Jude Akubuilo, who is organising the seminar.

The lawmakers had intended to visit United States, but were denied visa by the US Embassy in Abuja as part of immigration restrictions put in place by the country in the run up to the presidential elections, which held on November 4.

The Sunday Punch had earlier reported that the embassy's refusal to grant the applications for visas was based on the fact that the legislators' trip was not of 'critical importance', beside the fact that the seminar slated for between October 28 and November 14, 2008 coincided with the US presidential elections.
