Corruption: Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia reportedly faked hospital admission to avoid interrogation

Detectives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, says one of the judges under investigation, Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia, lied that she was admitted in a hospital, in a bid to avoid interrogation.

Recall that operatives of the DSS had recently arrested some judges across the country over allegations of corruption, but they were later released.

Those arrested include: Justice John Okoro and Justice Sylvester Nguta of the Supreme Court; Justice Namdi Dimgba and Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court, Abuja; Kabiru Auta, FHC, Kano; Muazu Pindiga, FHC, Gombe; and a former Chief Judge of Enugu State, Innocent Umezulike.

Following their arrest and subsequent release, the commission extended its probe to other alleged corrupt judges of which Ofili-Ajumogobia was one of them.

While two Federal High Court judges, Justice Agbadu James Fishim and Justice Uwani Abba yesterday honoured EFCC’s invitation, Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia failed to show up, claiming she was on admission.

The judge told the agency that she was admitted into the “intensive care unit” of Golden Cross Hospital on Bourdillon Road in Lagos, SaharaReporters reports.

The agency, out of curiosity decided to pay her a “courtesy call” only to discover that she had not been to the hospital since October 13, 2016.

EFCC detectives, however, found out that a medical staff of the hospital was trying to insert her name into their records as their patient.

The report said when they could not find her in the hospital, they gave her a call, asking of her whereabouts, but she restated that she was in the intensive care unit, only to cut off the call when she was told that they have searched the private hospital and couldn’t find her, the report claimed.
