Good day good people of Nairaland. I came across an Infinity G35 Nigeria used and have thoughts of buying it. Sellers are less likely to tell one the true faults and common faults of cars they are about to sell so I thought I could get an advice here on issues related to the car INFINITI G35 2004 model.
Contributions are needed. Thanks

Yes I know I'm going to do that.
My question here is for people that have a little idea of the car and the common problems it comes with

Why not a Toyota... C class Merc or such likes. I wouldn't touch a Nigerian used Nissan for free!

good transmission, good engine, great sports chassis, don't get the G35x get the proper RWD. you may wonder why I advice against the g35x , and it's simply because of the cost of the parts for front shafts, lower arms and struts and also the front diff. yes, it's an ATTESA AWD which is very sporty but doy yourself a favour and get a RWD model. the G35 uses the VQ35DE which is shared with QX4 and Pathfinder JR50 models. you need to check for items such as oil leaks, misfiring, knocking sounds and engine clattering which indicate timing chain issues, camshaft issues and some catalytic converter issues. run away if the owner use any other transmission fluid other than Nissan Matic J.

check for accident and crumple on the body and subframe/chassis and if present, avoid it. check for oil leaks in gearbox and differentials, check for any electrical work such as in the engine bay under the footwells and in fuse boxes.

Bros, na only one car go get all these faults and yet on one thread you say nissan good. Like I stated then, fuel and oil is the major issue we face here. Op go for the car, use good engine oil and a lot of octane booster and you will never regret that decision. Get in touch with Gazzuzz for the engine oil and contact me for the octane booster.

I've never called American Nissan good, show me the thread. and it's not only fuel and oil that's the problem of Nissan. it's more of sensors monitoring cam activities.

bros, it is the fuel that causes the sensors to misbehave . The oxygen sensors begin to shout the moment you buy Nigerian fuel and from there the ecu reduces the performance of the engine to compensate for the low octane fuel and fuel economy is gone and as the engine becomes sluggish, other issues arises, gearbox performance is restricted and then all the sensors begin to work overtime and fail. And the owner of the Nissan will even compound the problem by using obsolete oils thinking that he is saving money not knowing that he is using his hands to destroy his car. Good morning. If its not you that said so on the thread, it must be leJeun. Note that this scenario occurs in all cars that requires premium fuel . Vw Acura, Benz, Bmw, Range Rover and your turf, Lexus

bro, I suggest you go online forum and read about people's complaint on Nissan and infiniti. it's not about fluids and oils that causes them to fail. they weren't built to last as they were previously done. Prolly because Nissan was trying too hard to impress the market and copy BMW (another very terribly unreliable car) technology and integrate into theirs.

The same way they complain about range rover abroad too. I used to work with Alliance Auto as their tow truck guy and I learned a lot first hand from their workshop manager who is now with Coscharis. There's no car that is built to last, the same way mobile phones are designed. The era of those vehicles are over. Until 1987, BMW cars were shipped to Germany for repairs as there was only one mechanic in Lagos. Now there are a lot of us fixing cars that could not be done before. We need to get to the root cause of why these cars fail. The difference between the dealership and the independent shops is that while they replace, we repair and it is what is not available in the US. You brought a bill issued by a dealership the other day. Can you give that kind of invoice even if you wan hammer? It is the same way people complain about WestarElizade and Kia and Coscharis. They are stuck with warranty and therefore will pay thru their nose to maintain the visit to the dealership. Give a Kia owner 64k bill for service using mineral oil if he will not call you a scammer

Given the propensity for the car to be problematic in Nigeria & the poor maintenance culture of most Nigerian users, I would advise you buy a direct Toks.

Pay particular attention to the fluids including engine & tranny. Fuel quality does affect performance here but kazeems are the greatest killer machines. Don’t buy parts because they are cheap but because they are genuine & represent a better quality for the longevity of the ride.

Good luck with your choice.

I once changed the gear oil on a primera in warri and instead of moving forward na only reverse e dey go. Then I had an outlet with Oando along airport road. That wahala Was The determining factor that made Oando to bring in their dexron III into the market. That said, if your primera requires ns1 and you can't find it, what do you do? That's where the wahala dey. But there are some models that is not cvt and the fluids are available. There's no car that is not good for the country, it is the maintenance history of the previous owner that matters

OK. Then will stick with the stick shift transmission of the Nissan. Are you still in warri. Would you advice a primera 00/01 over a civic 01-05 all naija used. Having a real issue picking one

No, I am no longer in warri. Civic is known as a car without issues. It is called the car mechanics hate with passion because there is nothing much to do. The cvt fluids are available now , just use the right oil and everything is OK. The bushings and tie rods don't cost much. It is periodical. Stick shift is outdated now

In 2004, a man came to Berger wanting to buy a manual e 240. He was scorned. In 1999, manual cars were over 85% of the cars in the country. Right now, it is only kia and other low priced csrs that are full time stick shift. Tiptronic has taken over. Have you seen a 2005 High end Nissan with a stick shift?

Infiniti don't use CVT, they use traditional automatic. You're safe as long as you use Nissan Matic J.
*Will I advice you to buy it? yes,
*Given the opportunity will I buy it? yes,
*Is that Infiniti G35 reliable? Yes.

On a side note, Infiniti has actually begun some experimentation with the CVT since 2012 on the QX60 (former JX35). It is fitted with either RE0F10E or RE0F10J, two of Nissan's CVT8 models.
