In Kano a self-confessed Satanist was apprehended by men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) after he knowingly knifed his father to death.

The drug induced teenager, his hands bound behind his back in a video outside the NSCDC cell, gave his name as Abu Kassim Ibn Ya’u Ibrahim Ibn Abubakar.

Beaming with smile and not for one moment looking remorseful in the two minutes, forty seconds video, told the officials that he committed the gruesome murder of his father under the influence of ‘Colorado’, synthetic cannabinoids, a trending cocktail of psychotropic drugs commonly used by many Nigerian youths. The drug is believed to have been named after the city of Colorado, one of the states in the United States of America where a law legalising marijuana for 21 years old was first approved in the country.

He also revealed that he took ‘ice’: crystal methamphetamine, a stimulant speeding up brain-body messages.

He topped the two dangerous drugs with cigarette.

He said he loved his father so much that was why he butchered him. “I want him to be in paradise because I love him so much. “That is why I killed him. He did everything for me. But in the end, I was beyond reform and killed him.

“So, you see, God will punish me for doing what I did,” he said invoking the spirit of hudud, set of offenses and crimes against God whose punishment is clearly stipulated in the Quran and the Sunna.

These are called ‘Quesas’ or physical assault and murder that are punishable through retaliation. However, the victim or the surviving heirs may decide to waive the punishment, and demand compensation (blood money or diyya).

‘Ranking rugged’, as he dubbed himself at the end of the video on the prompt of one of his interviewers, Abu Kassim, repeated that he “deliberately killed” his dad.

“My father is in paradise. I killed him (my father); and he is in paradise,” he once more reiterated, admitting that he is “a full fledged companion of hell (Satanist).
