Nigeria’s 100m hurdles world record holder Olúwátóbilọ́ba Ayọ̀mídé Amúsàn a.k.a. Tobi Amusan stole the show at the inaugural Jamaica Athletics Invitational held in Kingston on Saturday 11 May 2024

She ran a world-leading 12.40 seconds to take the gold ahead of Jamaican home favourite / current world champion Danielle Williams (12.46) and the USA’s Christina Clemens who came 3rd in 12.54s.

For most of the race, Amusan was behind Williams and American Nia Ali but pushed ahead and overtook them in the closing stages, beating the previous world-leading 12.42s set by Tonea Marshall of the USA on 20 April 2024.

With this victory, Amusan has imperiously declared her readiness to reach the podium at this year’s Summer Olympics which will hold from Friday 26 July to Sunday 11 August in Paris, France.
