TABERNACLE ROAD, EROSION PROJECT: AKSG ANNOUNCES CLOSURE OF A SECTION OF CALABAR / ITU ROAD

In fulfillment of Governor Umo Eno’s promise to deliver a standard road and flood control project at Tabernacle Road and its surrounding, the Akwa Ibom State Government is closing the Nelson Mandela axis of the Calabar - Itu expressway to vehicular movements from Monday, May 20.

The Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof Eno Ibanga, in a statement regretted the decision which he said was necessary to enable the completion of the discharge drain of the road project which traverses Uyo and Itu local government areas.

“The Akwa Ibom State Government wishes to inform the general public that starting from Monday, May 20th, 2024, the Calabar - Itu dual carriageway will be closed to traffic at Calabar - Itu Highway by Park Road intersection and Calabar - Itu dual carriageway by Mandela Street intersection, till further notice.

“This is to pave way for the deep excavation work involved in the ongoing construction of 0.97km underground drainage system at Tabernacle road, which is advancing towards the discharge point at Calabar - Itu dual carriageway.

“In view of this, mini buses and light vehicles are, please, advised to use either Ikpa road through Uyo village road or Ikot Udoro Street through Enen Mkprong to Calabar - Itu highway, while heavy duty vehicles, including long buses coming in to Uyo from Cross River State, are to do so through Calabar - Itu - Ibiakpan Junction in Ikot Ekpene and those leaving Uyo to Cross River State, are to use Uyo - Ikot Ekpene Road - Ibiakpan Junction to link itu - Calabar highway.

“While soliciting maximum cooperation of the public, the State Ministry of Works and Fire Service, on behalf of the State Government, sincerely regrets inconveniences caused by this development”, the statement added.
