I have a toyota avalon 1997 model. my issue is, the gear shift just wont move from the parking position in all cases in the morning even when the brake pedal is depressed. I have to allow the RPM to be at 1 position or warm the car for say 2 minutes before it shift. once that happens in the morning or the car is left for hours the problem is repeated otherwise it shift normally.

Am encountering this issue for the first time in all models of auto i have used for years. what could be the reason? Thax for your input.

1. get a quote for a new trans
2. change the oil with mrs --texaco dextron 3 about 4 liters max----8kmax
3. the oil filter needs attention cleaning - change----you will hear a whining noise ie the pump is trying to pump oil around
4. if above dont work the surgery----your money counts from here.
5. like rule no 1 states consider the cost of a new one

i have two cars with a trans of 160k and the other of 33k
btw them the oil, workmanship and oil-filter is same cost
so check well well.
