*. ...Says question about 2015 still premature
President Goodluck Jonathan has again parried suggestions that he may be seeking re-election in 2015. Speaking at the Redeemed Christian Church of God's Holy Ghost Congress at the church's Redemption Camp on the outskirts of Lagos last night, the president said that questions relating to whether he would contest in the 2015 general election are premature as "2015 is still a long time from now".
Jonathan said he would rather concentrate on creating concrete changes that will benefit Nigerians. Citing efforts put in by his administration to ensure stable power supply, he said"you would have noticed some change in power generation; but that is not the final destination as we'restill working to ensure a reliable power supply".
Recalling that he was at the church's 2010 Holy Ghost Congress, the president thanked the congregation for their prayers, which he said had helped him ascend the presidency. He however called for constant prayers to help him succeed in the task of "transforming the country".
With regard to the conduct of elections, Jonathan promised that Nigerians would witness more credible elections, progressively, noting that the last gubernatorial election in Ondo State is a foretaste of things to come.
The president was accompanied by his chief of staff, Mike Oghiadomhe and the Presidential Palace. Also present at the event were governor of Ondo State, Dr.Olusegun Mimiko, First Lady of Lagos State, Mrs Abimbola Fashola, and wivesof the Ogun and Benue states.
