Pre-programming; How Do You Cope?? by Nmeri17: 1:28pm On Nov 03, 2013 |
As kids we all wanted to be lawyers, doctors, engineers, and all that. I was no exception. since i grew up i have wanted to be a programmer, but i am hindered by lack of a PC. So i started work so i can use the proceeds to buy a lappy but the thing is this: there is absolutely no spare time (except on sundays)to practise at all, which is an indication that it cant just be a part time thing or something you do in your past time. so how do programmers cope with feeding and footing their bills before their apps start to pay?? I've even thought of working, for say two years, resigning and living off the money till i learn and become a practising coder, but indeed its unrealistic. Fill me in pls |

How passionate are you about programming? Depending on your level of passion, you have to bring out time daily to practice, even if its just for an hour. With time you will become an expert programmer. |

Start out by cutting your sleep-hours by three. It's not going to be easy, at first. But with time, you'll get used to it. P.S: If you're really passionate about programming, then this shouldn't be a problem. |

Nmeri17: uhm, i dont have to bother 'bout that i've got parents to take care of that. well, you shouldnt rush things. Start with the little amount of time u have and make a good use of it. some programmers i know started out as programming for hobby. I personally got interested in programming at 16 cuz i just wanted to create a game idea i had to play with my friends, that's how i got to know about all other things- web design n co, so i wasnt under pressure to spend hours coding. It'd do u a lot good if u can find a relative to lean on for a little financial assistance. |

Stay in your mama's and if there is a garage or secluded space work there till it works out. You cant hustle on your own and still code |

Its like the OP delved into programming because they say you can make a lot of money from it, please don't enter into programming because of the financial gain or job promise please. If you really want to do programming look beyond the financial promise abeg me dey begging. Their is nothing stopping you from practising at night if you really want to do programming. |

Do you sleep more than four hours everyday? if yes, then "there's time"! unless your work consists of physical labour. |

I've always luved computers since I was a kid espercially software. Before I ate or benefited anythin from my programming, it took quite a while. Before I hit my first contract, I took it as a hobby and for research which I still do till date. Can't live without touching code, whether I understand it or not. It improves my cognition. |
