How Do You React To Situations? by annybliss(op): 6:54am On Dec 15, 2013
Nearly everyone faces some sort of stress on a somewhat regular basis. These stresses are often related to personal or family considerations, business related concerns, unknown or unpredicted situations or events, or facing some sort of obstacle. How each of us react to these stresses generally determine our eventual effectiveness or success. Nobel Prize Winner, Dr. Hans Selye identified two forms of stress, and categorized them into two forms; 1) Distress, or those that are non - productive and somewhat destructive and disruptive; and 2) Eustress, which are those stresses that we learn from and become more effective, better, and learn something from.

1. How do you react to stress? Do you face them head on, or do you attempt to hide from them and use avoidance techniques? Do you prepare for the possibilities, and do you rely on planning and preparation, or do you simply procrastinate and enjoy some degree of denial, until there is some sort of crisis that mandates and forces you to react? It is almost always better to be proactive than reactive, and how well one plans and prepares is often a major factor in success!

2. Are those scenarios that are often considered to be unknown truly that way, or are they that way because we do not prepare to our fullest potential and capabilities? One of the most prevailing fears is the fear of the unknown, so wouldn't it make sense to learn more, prepare more, plan for contingencies with numerous backup plans, etc., so that little is unplanned? Those that plan most thoroughly are nearly always best prepared for eventualities, thus avoiding being as overwhelmed as those that do not!

3. Everyone faces certain obstacles at some time, but what differentiates the most prepared from the others, is how one reacts to these. Do you perceive of obstacles as stress inducing problems, or is your mindset that they are challenges that you are prepared for, and will overcome? Obviously, when someone proceeds with a positive, can - do mindset, he reduces his distress, because he sees things to get things done, rather than fearing what might occur. There are far more individuals that spend the majority of their time worrying and procrastinating, than being definitive and impactful, through the dedication and commitment to positive proactivity and the perception that one will succeed.

Are you really prepared for life's occurrences, or do you avoid confronting challenges proactively? How things will end up are often up to you!
