PoliticsAPC Crisis: Why We Can’t Continue To Remain In Party – Shehu Sani Hints On Exit by 16Ebisco(op): 1:00pm On Jul 04, 2018
The Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has said that he and the other aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress, APC would no longer remain in the party because they were tired of being treated as ‘slaves.’

Sani said the new National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, would have resolved the issues bedevilling the party but assumed power very late.

Addressing reporters in Abuja on Tuesday, the lawmaker said, “I wish Adams had come earlier because like I said, these grenades that were laid by the former chairman will explode in a matter of days.”

Sani said the party leaders including President Muhammadu Buhari have proved incapable of handling the crisis.

Sani said, “It is also very clear to us that even President Muhammadu Buhari is incapable of tackling the menace of the governor of Kaduna state.

“How can a governor openly call for violence against Senators and not a statement came from the seat of power cautioning such a governor?

“How can a governor move bulldozers and demolish a house of a fellow party member , the one who helped him to be where he is and there is not even a statement from the presidency?

“The governor uses the machinery of the state to emasculate political opponents. He even framed me for murder and there was no statement that came from the presidency to caution such a governor.

“ Virtually, Kaduna state under governor El- Rufai does not create conducive environment for any of us to remain in that party (APC).

“There were three attempts to resolve the Kaduna APC crisis; there was Inuwa Abdulkadir committee which was never respected by the governor, there was the governor Masari-led committee which was also not respected and there is, as you can see, Tinubu’s attempt to reconcile members of the party which was simply naturalized and abandoned.

“So we are not slaves to continue to be in that party.”

PoliticsUgwuanyi Approves Over N1.8 Billion For Construction Of Court Buildings, Roads by 16Ebisco(op): 7:56pm On Jul 03, 2018
Committed to the effective and efficient dispensation of justice in Enugu State, Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration has approved the award of contracts for the construction of 14 new court buildings in the judicial divisions and magisterial districts across the state.

The state government also awarded contracts for the rehabilitation of the access road leading to the dump site of the Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA) at Ogui Nike, Enugu North Local Government Area, which is currently being evacuated by the state government for the first time in the past 12 years. Also approved was the construction and rehabilitation of Ebeano Estate road and John Nwodo close by Otigba junction, Enugu. The three projects will cost the state government the sum of N452,001,262.95.

The administration equally approved free artificial limbs for 300 persons with amputated limbs in partnership with a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), revealing that 250 amputees have so far applied for the exercise.

Briefing newsmen after the State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting, the commissioner for works and infrastructure, Engr. Greg Nnaji, explained that court buildings spread across the three senatorial districts of the state, include eleven magistrate courts of various types, two open court registries and a High Court, adding the projects were awarded at the cost of N1, 390, 272,622.13.

Engr. Nnaji stated that Gov. Ugwuanyi has always shown outstanding commitment to the growth and development of the Judiciary through his administration’s numerous programmes, disclosing that the last time new courts were constructed in the state was over 11 years ago.

The commissioner noted that the council’s decision was also borne out of the governor’s vision to reposition the Judiciary to maintain its pride of place as the last hope of the common man. He added that the structures were carefully designed and will be provided with state-of-the-art facilities to effectively serve the purpose of a modern court.

On the ESWAMA dump site, the works commissioner further explained that the road project was considered and awarded to create access for the transportation of refuse to the site, stating that the engineering design provided for “drainage and complete remediation and re-generation.”

He also added that the infrastructural development at the site will open up the area for investment as investors in waste management would be able to access and exploit the waste and transform it into wealth for the economic benefit of the state.

Engr. Nnaji equally told newsmen that the state government has provided a temporary dump site at Ugwu Onyeama, off Enugu-Onitsha expressway, as an alternative place pending the completion of the access road.

On the Ebeano road, the commissioner pointed out that it will serve as bypass for motorists from Otigba junction through UBA to Bissalla road and decongest traffic at the popular New Haven junction for ease of transportation in that area, saying that the project will be flagged-off on Thursday as the contractor is already mobilizing to site.

On health, the commissioner, Dr. Fintan Ekochin, disclosed that Enugu at the global level was one of the three states nominated for the Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Award as one of the state governments with best policies on free maternal and child healthcare programme.

Dr. Ekochin further disclosed that the council in keeping with the state government’s vision to take healthcare delivery to the next level especially during outbreak of deadly diseases approved the establishment of an Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) in conjunction with the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

He stated that the centre will serve as the information technology hub for the coordination of emergency activities in the state, saying: “Enugu State is one of the states doing this at this point in time with the NCDC”.

Speaking, the commissioner for information, Mr. Ogbuagu Anikwe, re-emphasized the importance of the access road to the dump site, stressing that it would promote investment in the state especially in the area of waste utilization for economic growth and employment generation.

PoliticsBuhari's Associate, Onochie Assaults CAN Once More, Says Assemble Behind Slaught by 16Ebisco(op): 9:48am On Jul 03, 2018
The Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari via web-based networking media, Lauretta Onochie has again blamed the Christian Association for Nigeria (CAN) of being a 'parasitic parasite' in its distress to fuel emergency in the country.

Onochie, in a long post on her Facebook page, titled 'Christian Association of Nigeria not in talking terms with God' called CAN the Cankerworm Association of Nigeria and blamed them for deluding their supporters and working with criminal components, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in plundering assets in the nation.

She blamed CAN for playing a part in the passing of two Catholic ministers in Benue keeping in mind the end goal to draw the Catholics back to the affiliation, including that they were companions with those ravaging as herdmen on 'Slaughtering Spree'.

Every day POST reviews that two ministers and admirers were killed at St. Ignatius' Catholic Church, Ayar in Benue state, while petitioning God for an answer for the killings in the state, when speculated herders struck.

The post peruses to some degree: "This piece has nothing to do with the a great many Christians in Nigeria who Love the Lord with their entire hearts and their neighbors as themselves, as charged by our Lord, Jesus Christ.

"On June 16, 2018, lost in the rapture of Nigeria versus Croatia coordinate at the on-going FIFA World container competition in faraway Russia, was the cheering news that the Nigeria Police had caught the five associated executioners with two Rev Fathers in Benue. Their names were given as takes after: Manga Husseini, David Akenawe, Agada Tsesaa, Tarza Orvanya and Ngyohov Shin.

"The for the most part resting Nigerian media, for reason, disclosed to the country by one of our veteran writers, did not think of it as "Breaking News". They didn't do their standard thing "Reorder". This is an offered to demarket President Muhammadu Buhari, a man chose to rescue a country that its ruination was upheld by indecent men strutting themselves as Christians.

"The CAN of worms that harvest from the wicked exchange that is going ahead in our country, did not consider it fit to applaud the security agents. For what reason okay? The Cankerworm Association of Nigeria, already known as "Christian" Association of Nigeria, had accomplished its point, utilizing the blood of two honest Catholic Priests, to convey back the Catholic Church to their corrupt overlap. The lives of those two blameless Priests were pawns in the frantic diversion by certain abhorrent previous Landlords of our country, who are sleeping with the evil Cankerworms and purveyor of loathe messages and phony news.

"It was in the primes of the Jonathan organization. Sin was in vogue. Debasement was the money of exchange for the relationship of partakers of stolen supports generally and unfortunately known as Christian Association of Nigeria.

"It was extremely in vogue to submit abominations and be respected with a front seat in chapel and a title. In any case, the Catholic Church in Nigeria would have none of it. The Catholic Bishops chose to stop the unholy association CAN, as there was no greater Christianity in the Christian Association of Nigeria. They refered to poor administration and Politicization of the affiliation. The Catholics additionally went ahead to include that a few states of mind, expressions, and activities of the national administration of CAN which as they would like to think nullify the idea of the establishment of the affiliation and the craving of Our Lord Jesus Christ, made it inconceivable for them to proceed in an indistinguishable association from wicked individuals.

"And after that, as though in addressed supplication for the Catholics, Nigerians mobilized round Muhammadu Buhari, a man of respect and respectability, sacking the administration that bolstered the avarice of the CAN of worms who always got stolen stores intended to improve the lives of Nigerians and less demanding.

"This made the Tapeworms extremely troubled. They started to plot to convey back the Catholic Church to their overlay. Their quiet was stunning when IPOB attempted to destabilize the nation. So when IPOB abruptly dumped Christianity for Judaism, watchers claimed that the Worms had not possessed the capacity to meet their budgetary commitments to IPOB.

"I am a Bible Student and EVERYTHING I do is guided by my confidence in ONE God as upheld by the Christian Holy book, the Bible. Any Association that appends "Christian" to its name, must be based on what Jesus Christ showed us. In any case, the criminal traders are sleeping with criminal components in our the present resistance, as they were with the Looting legislature of PDP that steered our country into the rocks under you know who. They have now figured out how to drag the Catholic Church into their pig pen to flounder in their mud. Be that as it may, it won't last on the grounds that the Catholics would see through the indecent smokescreen and escape from CAN. Once more.

"I think I was being strategic by calling them CAN of worms. We have to characterize what kind of worms They are. They are CAN of Tapeworms. Parasites! Sucking for nothing, the blood of their insensible supporters notwithstanding misleading degenerate political pioneers.

"The state of mind of numerous fakers to Christianity is de-showcasing Christianity to the point that Islam is presently the quickest developing religion on earth. (Ntor! Ask Google). This is regardless of the way that ISIS and Boko Haram, are doing to Islam what CAN is doing to Christianity.

"With all the stolen assets accessible to them, they can bear to discover reality. Be that as it may, their point isn't to discover reality. Confirmation flourishes that Aides of the political companions of the Tapeworms are the ones on a slaughtering binge, for the sake of herders and some of them are now in care. They have helpfully turned away when the police, in light of the appeal to of the Benue state Governor, welcomed his antecedent for addressing. They have said nothing with respect to the capture by the Police of the enemies of the two Catholic Priests in Benue State.

"It was splendidly fine for a supposed Christian President to go to Organization Of Islamic Conference (OIC), and convey it's advantages to Nigeria. (I presume they may have plundered those advantages).

"Until the point when they turn into an enrolled political gathering until the point that they stop to be evil and flippant in their articulations until the point when they apologize and move toward becoming Christians, their words are only clamor and detest discourse. Until at that point, they don't speak to Christians nor represent us. Until at that point, they are a brood of snakes and a CAN of Tapeworms."

PoliticsBoko Haram: Ex-commander Makes Explosive Revelations About Sect, Shekau by 16Ebisco(op): 6:11pm On Jul 01, 2018
A 32 year-old former Boko Haram Commander, Rawana Goni, has appealed to the Nigerian military authorities to allow him make a phone call to the elusive leader, Abubakar Shekau and at least 137 other terrorists to make them surrender.

Goni, who is undergoing rehabilitation at a military detention camp in Maiduguri, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The former Boko Haram commander is an indigene of Bama in Borno state.

He surrendered to the military in Cameroon after escaping from Sambisa Forest eight months ago.

He claimed to have held several positions in ten different cells of Boko Haram in Sambisa. He said the last position he held was as the Chief officer of Dispute Resolution for the group.

He explained that many militants came to him to settle problems ranging from family matters. He also reconciled Boko Haram factions.

“I rescued people sentenced to death and minimised punishment of those who committed crimes. I am one of the most influential persons in the group and they always listened and abided by what I said.

“I joined Boko Haram because of the condition I found myself in the last five years. When the insurgents invaded Bama town, I ran with my family to Cameroon thinking I was in a safe destination.

“But on reaching Cameroon, I was shocked to realise that I brought myself into another Boko Haram camp. By that time, I knew I would not survive without joining the group.

“Days after my induction, we opened a permanent camp at the Cameroon border and named the forest “Aluska”. It was in that camp that I learnt all types of trainings including handling weapons.

“After the training, we embarked on our first mission. We invaded a military formation in Cameroon, dislodged the soldiers and took many weapons from their armoury. We couldn’t take any vehicle because the area was surrounded by river.

“We took the weapons we recovered to our leader Abubakar Shekau and briefed him on our success. He was happy that five of us could dislodge a military formation. After congratulating us, he appointed me to lead the group and returned our weapons to us.

“Few days later, I recruited many fighters, because as a commander, you are expected to have no fewer than 250 fighting troops.

“With the new fighting force, we invaded Waza village, Damaga and Banki. We also invaded Bama which is my hometown.

“I was touched to see my people being tortured and killed, while many women and children were living in excruciating hardship. So I decided to pass a message to my fellow insurgents from Bama and we formed a group comprising of about 137 persons to help our people in prison to escape.

“I was able to rescue about 300 hostages at the prison facility in Bama. I usually lied to the guards at the prison that I was going to kill the inmates. But I would take them to a safe place in Konduga and ask them to run to a safer destination.

“Many of the prisoners were exposed to hard labour while some were used as guinea-pigs at shooting range by new arms handlers among Boko Haram,” he said.

On Abubakar Shekau’s health status, Goni told NAN that the insurgents’ leader was healthy as against a report that he was ill.

“Nothing happened to him. He broke his leg five years ago while riding on a horse. But he had since recovered. Any one saying Shekau is sick is only deceiving himself. We used to communicate through radiophone but not any more”.

Goni who believed that the war was coming to an end, urged the military to let him tell Shekau and other insurgents that he is still alive.

“My 137 boys are on standby to hear I am still alive and I can assure you they will run out of Sambisa Forest and surrender to the military. I once told them to surrender and they said we shall all get killed. But I told them that I will surrender and they said if nothing happened to me, they will all come out,” he said.

Goni commended the military for the special treatment given to inmates who surrendered.

“They received us with joy and interact with us at all time. They feed us well and always want to know our problems. If other Boko Haram members knew how we are being treated, they will never want to remain where they are,” he said.

PoliticsNigerian Celebrities To Buhari’s Govt: End Killings, Prayer Not The Key by 16Ebisco(op): 10:33am On Jul 01, 2018
Prominent Nigerian celebrities have called out the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration for handling the issue of security in the country with kid gloves.

Recently, Plateau State Police Command confirmed the killing of 86 persons in attacks on Razat, Ruku, Nyarr, Kura and Gana-Ropp villages of Gashish District in Barkin Ladi Local Government.

But unconfirmed sources have claimed that over 200 people lost their lives in the attack believed to have been perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen.

Also, no fewer than 9 people were killed, 54 vehicles burnt in a tanker explosion on Otedola Bridge, Lagos.

Reacting, celebrities, over the weekend, took to their social media accounts, berating the Federal Government over its failure to protect lives of its citizens.

They called on the government to be accountable and hold those responsible for the death of Nigerians, rather than calling for prayers on incidents which could have been averted if a proper system was in place.

Buhari in a statement during his condolence visit to Plateau said, “There is nothing I can do to help the situation except to pray to God to help us out of the security challenges”.

However, Celebrities noted that these would continue if those responsible for killings, poor maintenance of roads, amongst others were not held responsible.

Genevieve Nnaji leading the deluge of messages of the celebrities on social media platforms called on Nigerians to sign a petition to restrict movement of trucks in Nigeria.

“So many questions to be asked, Why are we devoid of love of man and fear of God? Why has value for human live depreciated? why are we left helpless and defenceless in our own country?

“We will continue to pray for souls lost in these senseless massacres but this country needs more than just prayers at this point.May the souls of all the faithful departed Rest In Peace. Amen. Let our actions do the talking by signing the petition against truck movement,” she wrote.

Also lending her voice on the issue, Simi called on Nigerians to stop stressing on prayers and hold the government accountable for the latest killings.

“I can’t help but believe that if we were less religious, our country would be thriving more. Many of us are waiting for God to come down and do everything.

“If the trailer with a tanker of fuel wasn’t were it shouldn’t have been in the first place, will this have escalated to this point? If law enforcement actually did their jobs, will this have escalated? I’m not God, but I doubt it.

“Who is in charge of enforcing the laws that concern trailer traffic? If a car runs into a truck with no taillights in the middle of the night, and people die in hospitals because there are no basic equipment, and people kill other human beings because of COWS – is it God’s wrath or our own wickedness?

“And now I see a lot of people spreading fear and making a lot of our man-made problems into spiritual attacks. We serve a living God, right? And he gave us sense? Let’s use it.I’m sorry, but “just pray” can’t be all there is. It’s not okay. Someone’s negligence is responsible for this, there need to be consequences. I refuse to believe God pre-ordained this selfishness and nonchalant attitude. We have to play our own part.

“If there are no consequences, we all need to break something. If wicked people get away with their wickedness, other wicked people become confident in their wickedness.

“God has not given us the spirit of fear. Let us hold the government accountable. Let’s hold ourselves accountable.”

Adesua Etomi wrote, “Please make roads safer for us. If it’s not dangerous potholes, it’s traffic robberies, if it’s not traffic robberies it’s kidnappings, if it’s not that it’s SARS, if it’s not SARS it’s containers falling, if it’s not that it’s tankers catching fire…surely, more must be done.”

Timi Dakolo “Are we at war? Are we on self-destruction mode or are we paying the price of something we don’t know?

“The truth is that many of these things happening in the country can be avoided, from the trailer carrying containers that have nothing holding them back incase of potholes to trucks that have outlived their days still un the business of carrying petroleum products, to buses without brakes still carrying passengers, to same buses loading passengers in the middle of the road and causing traffic right in front of traffic control officers and police officers.

“These accidents will continue to happen if we dot hold people responsible/accountable.”

AY Makun “What exactly does Road Safety do in Nigeria? Even if anyone believe that we cannot stop some of these disasters, we should at least arm ourselves with knowledge: so many lives wouldn’t have to be lost if there was enough disaster preparedness.

” My question is what are these tankers doing on the road with other vehicles during the day? Luck is a very thin wire between survival and disaster, and not many people can keep their balance on it. This could have happened to anyone of us today as we go about our daily hustles.”

Yvonne Jegede on her Instagram expressed her grievance writing, “This is not a spiritual problem. No country in this world prays more than Nigerians. We need to take actions.

“Will it have been better if a convoy of one of our esteemed leaders was on that bridge when the fire broke out? Will proper measures be taken immediately?”

Popular actress, Kate Henshaw on her part wrote: “It is time to stand up act. Prayers without actions amount to nothing

Donjazzy wrote “God is not happy with us as a country and we know why. What do we do now?”

Ruggedman: “Petrol or flammable liquid isn’t transported on public roads, especially during the day in other countries.

“Will the owner of the truck be held accountable? or will some bastards collect bribe and sweep these under the rug?

Actress, Lizzy Anjorin in her post said “If they continue to slaughter all of us, who will vote when elections come next year.”

In Olamide’s words, “We are all in this mess together. We have to hold our politicians accountable for every kobo spent. The era when we look away was over, but as from now on, everybody’s voice must be heard. This is democracy.”

Actor turned politician, Desmond Eliot, wrote on his Instagram: “I cannot tell what is going on, but these much I know something isn’t right somewhere. We need to pray for our land. The calamity is too much in one week, so many lives lost. Lord have mercy on your people.

“Many children are not seeing their fathers, mothers, aunts, uncles. Many left homes and never returned. Lord have peace mearcy! Peace in the land…North, South East and West. Lord Pour out your peace upon us once again.”

Actress Oshadipe Kehinde wrote: “I was still thinking of how to put my thoughts together about the Plateau massacre, and then the Lagos incident surfaced. Honestly, I am tired of praying for Nigeria when I know the source of the problem.

“May all the people responsible for the unnecessary loss of lives, properties, disappointments, unempolyments, low life, and evil in Nigeria experience the worst evil on earth. I am very angry and sad.

“There are too many evil people running the affairs of the nation. Please, God avenge the death of the innocents as their blood continually cries to you. May the souls of the departed rest in peace.”

Sammie Okposo wrote: “Oh God have mercy on Nigeria; let peace reign. We pray for the souls of the departed to rest in peace. Comfort the families of the departed. Heal our hearts, and our lands, oh Lord.”

PoliticsPlateau Killings: Okorocha Reveals APC Governors’ Plan To End Massacre by 16Ebisco(op): 12:16pm On Jun 27, 2018
The Imo State governor and Chairman, Progressive Governors’ Forum, Rochas Okorocha, has disclosed that the governors on the platform of the All Progressives Congress will be in Plateau State on Friday over the killings in the State.

Okorocha said that the governors would assess the situation, and interact with the governor of the State, Mr. Simon Lalong on solutions to stop further killings in the State and other parts of the country.

Okorocha disclosed this on Tuesday, at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport on arrival from Abuja after the National Convention of the APC.

He noted that the crisis was not a religious one.

He said “I, with the rest of the governors of APC condemn in its entirety these unwarranted killings of innocent souls, and shedding of blood. We have called them insurgents, we’ve called them Boko Haram, we have called them all kinds of baptismal names and because the situation is not properly defined, most people hide under the cloak of religion of Christianity or Islam to create harm.

“No religion on earth, not even Christianity or Islam would warrant anyone to take anyone’s life. So this is not indeed a religious issue.

“Nigerians must come together now and fight this war properly because nationalism and religious differences have been the loophole with which these criminals operate.”

PoliticsNnewi Motorcycle Dealers Lament Okada Ban In Anambra, Beg Gov. Obiano by 16Ebisco(op): 6:43pm On Jun 26, 2018
Dealers of motorcycle spare parts in Nnewi, Anambra state have lamented over the setback their business would suffer as a result of the ban on the activities of commercial motorcycle operators in the state.

The traders also begged Governor Willie Obiano to rescind his ban on Okada riders in the state which comes into force on July 1 as had been previously announced by the state government.

The traders begged the governor to revoke the decision in the interest of all, saying that the ban would also stifle businesses in the state, and cause a loll in economic activities.

President of Fairly Used Motorcycle Dealers Association in Nnewi, Mr Eloka Ubajiekwu, who stated this at a press briefing, said, “There will be serious hunger, diseases and even death of many people over the ban of Okada at this time of harsh economy.

“The governor should device means to fight crimes emanating from Okada riders in Onitsha and Awka instead of banning their operation completely.”

While acknowledging that some criminals used motorcycle operators to rob people at gunpoint, he said the solution in the circumstance was not outright ban of the transport system.

Ubajiekwu said, “Criminals also use Sport Utility Vehicles, taxi cabs and buses to rob people at gunpoint but nobody has ever thought of banning such vehicles.

“A lot of people are fending for themselves and their families with Okada. An Okada rider is taking care of a minimum of five to seven persons daily, feeding them and paying children school fees.

“Motorcycle traders are earning their living from the business; likewise mechanics, vulcanizers and allied workers. By banning Okada transport, they are all in a big trouble because they have lost their jobs.”

He added: “Onitsha and Awka and other places in Anambra are quite different from Owerri, Benin and Enugu where such bans had been effected because the people of those states are not major dealers in motorcycles.

“We can comfortably say that there are no well known motorcycle dealers in those places, but here in Nnewi, we are too many to mention and even though the Okada ban was not extended to Nnewi, it will affect us badly because Onitsha and Awka are our major base.”

Also speaking, the Secretary of New Auto Spare Parts Association, Uche Ezechukwu warned that over 20,000 people would become jobless if the order was not rescinded.

PoliticsPDP Mocks APC Delegates For Fighting During Convention by 16Ebisco(op): 10:56am On Jun 26, 2018
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Delta State chapter, has mocked the state’s delegates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the party’s national convention in Abuja.

PDP said their action at the Eagle Square last Saturday was a complete shame and an embarrassment to the state.

The reaction was contained in a statement by Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, State Publicity Secretary of PDP.

He noted that what Nigerians witnessed was ample evidence and enough testimony to write-off the Delta APC as a bunch of crudes, reckless, warlike, undisciplined, ruthless and uncontrollable gang of rabble-rousers and troublemakers, who are dangerously prone to violence, destruction and blood-letting.

Osuoza said, “We in the Delta PDP have always warned and cautioned innocent and unsuspecting Deltans on the penchant and proximity of Delta APC to embrace confusion, violence and pandemonium in all their gatherings and activities.

“Our fears were justified with the gruesome and deliberate murder of Mr. Jeremiah Oghoveta, a chairmanship candidate, from Ward 10, Otu-Jeremi, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, during their ward congress as well as the subsequent violence that marred the parallel congresses in the state; a bloody and fractured process which incidentally produced the delegates that went to Abuja to continue their show of shame and embarrassment to Delta State.”

PoliticsEkiti Election: APC Chairman, Jide Awe Speaks On ‘resigning Because Of Fayemi’ by 16Ebisco(op): 9:45pm On Jun 25, 2018
Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Chief Jide Awe has dismissed speculations that he resigned from his position.

He described a press statement in circulation, which purported that he resigned, as “fake news”.

In a chat with DAILY POST Monday night, Jide Awe said he was shocked by our reporter’s question.

“Someone said I resigned? Me? But is resignation done on behalf of a person?”, he quipped.

“Please ignore mischief makers and their sponsors. I am with my party, APC and our candidate, Kayode Fayemi.

“We are working for his victory; we are with him. Please help me get the word out, I never resigned; I remain APC chairman in Ekiti. Thank you”.

In a statement, Awe was quoted as allegedly saying, “Consequent upon irreconcilable difference between my good self and our party’s governorship candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, I wish to notify the general public, especially the teeming members and supporters of the APC in Ekiti state that I have resigned my position as the State Chairma with effect from 30th June 2018.

“Since Dr. Kayode Fayemi emerged as the candidate of our party, I have tried all I could to support his candidacy and ensure victory for our party in the July 14 governorship election. However, I am pained that despite my efforts, Dr. Fayemi has refused to forgive those of us who worked for other aspirants, especially Engr. Segun Oni during the primary election.

“As State Chairman of the party, I do not have any information on the campaigns except the ones that I stumbled upon. Most importantly, funds coming in and being spent for the campaign are not known to me.

“For instance, I heard in the news just like every others that the governor of Ondo State, His Excellency Rotimi Akeredolu donated a sum of N2.27 billion into the campaign fund, only for a paltry sum of N20,000 to be made available to each of the 177 wards, amounting to N35.4 million. It was this N20,000 that was used to buy Indomie Noodles and Maggi that our party members distributed in the wards last week.

“Therefore, I view it as more honourable to step aside as the party chairman since it appears that our candidate and those around him do not trust some of us”.

PoliticsHerdsmen: Falae Reveals Reason For Killings by 16Ebisco(op): 10:59am On Jun 25, 2018
Olu Falae, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, has blamed Northern states for the crisis between herdsmen and farmers across the country.

He said Northern states had abandoned the policy introduced by former leaders to take care of herders.

The 79-year-old National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), said this during an interview on Channels Television’s Roadmap 2019, aired on Monday morning.

Falae said the needs of the herdsmen were thoroughly met during the days of late Sir Ahmadu Bello, but that the case was different today.

The former SGF recalled that during the period, there were grazing reserves while all kinds of facilities were provided for the herdsmen and their cattle.

Falae also pointed out that one of the factors responsible for the crisis include the reduction in size of the Lake Chad.

According to Falae, “The problem of the herdsmen has been exacerbated by the failure of many of the state governments in the North to take care of the needs of the herdsmen.’’

The elder statesman called on the Federal Government to take proactive steps in resolving the crisis.

He urged the government to tackle the depletion of the Lake Chad, erosion, as well as the Boko Haram insurgency, among other challenges.

“Over one million people who earn their livelihood from the lake can no longer do so.

“Added to that, are those uprooted by Boko Haram and then, desertification has been continuously eroding the arable land in Nigeria.

“When you put all these factors together, you find a tremendous pressure on herdsmen and their cattle and the response should have come from the state governments and the Federal Government to take care of their needs because they are Nigerians who are entitled to their livelihood,” Falae added.

PoliticsPDP Asks New APC Chairman, Oshiomhole To ‘secretly’ Submit Self To EFCC For Prob by 16Ebisco(op): 10:56pm On Jun 24, 2018
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday challenged the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, to immediately submit himself to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) “over humongous corruption allegations hanging on his neck”.

PDP said Oshiomhole lacks the “rectitude to speak in public as a leader at any level,” adding that this is until he “clears the allegations that he diverted billions of naira meant for the people of Edo state while he was governor.”

In a statement by its spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, the opposition party said since the petition against Oshiomhole at the EFCC is in the public domain, the “newly coronated national chairman would do the APC, Buhari Presidency, the EFCC as well as himself a lot of good by quietly submitting himself for investigation and possibly, prosecution.”

The statement added, “According to the party, since one of the campaign footstool upon which APC was elected into office is fighting corruption, it will be incongruous for Oshiomhole to go about his new assignment with allegation of corruption, even as tiny as a strand of hair.

“It is also instructive for the new chairman to understand that Nigerians are no longer inclined to sophistry, illogical arguments, deceits, contrivance and recourse to abuse as a method of campaign.

“As such, the PDP would be prepared for engagements that have the potency of rescuing our people from the hunger and starvation which the APC has sunk them.

“However, the essence of Oshiomhole’s emergence as President Muhammadu Buhari’s sole candidate was not lost on Nigerians as the Presidency imposed him as a pliable instrument to frustrate other would-be presidential aspirants of APC extraction and hand the ticket to President Buhari, who, obviously is afraid to stand a presidential primary due to his failures in office.

“With Saturday’s charade, APC and its Federal Government, which claims to have zero tolerance for corruption, have eaten their vomits, confirming that they have been hypocritical and trending on lies, deception and propaganda.

“With the outcome of the Saturday’s convention, the APC has kissed internal democracy goodbye in the selection of its candidates at all levels as the national leadership, led by people burdened with corruption allegations, cannot but submit to the whim and caprices of those who granted them official protection from prosecution.

“President Buhari and his handlers should, however, note that manipulating the APC convention and seizing the party’s Presidential ticket cannot help them as Nigerians, are now fully rallying on the platform of the repositioned PDP in their quest for a new President, who truly has the competence to effectively run a united, secure and prosperous nation, come 2019.”

PoliticsShiites Speak On Killing Policeman In Kaduna by 16Ebisco(op): 9:34pm On Jun 23, 2018
The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) otherwise known as Shi’ites, have denied responsibility, for the killing of a mobile police officer in Kaduna on Thursday.

Addressing the media in a press conference on Saturday, Secretary of IMN’s Media Forum, Abdulmumin Giwa, claimed the police and some hired thugs were responsible for the act.

Giwa also said that since the existence of the movement in Nigeria under Sheikh El-Zakzaky’s leadership, it has never resorted to use of violence, despite series of persecution meted on its members across the country.

“We have it on records that Senior Police Officers had met thugs called Civilian JTF a day before the incident at a place called Kinkinau Quarters of Kaduna and plotted this callous and unfortunate murders to be carried out when we come out to conduct our free Zakzaky processions.

“This was to discredit us in order to turn the tables against us. Thus the reported killing of the policeman was a handiwork of some desperate people out to give a dog a bad name in order to hang it. It was the result of a joint handiwork of policemen and thugs.

“Furthermore, the state Police Public Relations Officer was overheard a day before saying that there was going to be war the following day, and that he would personally take an AK47 and come out. Another police officer had warned friends living around the Central Market, Tudun Wada, Rigasa that the police would engage on some special operations the following day and that it would be best to avoid such places.

“There are also reports reaching us that indicate that Police, in an unholy alliance with thugs called Civilian JTF, have planned a house-to-house attacks on certain targeted members of the Islamic Movement living in Kaduna from yesterday. According to our sources, the police had assured the thugs of state backing and cover,” he said.

Giwa added: “As the thugs were callously and unjustifiably killing a policeman, the police were actively sporadically shooting on members of the Islamic Movement with live ammunition as they scampered for cover.

“Since December 2015, on the streets of Kaduna alone, we have lost 23 members to police bullets, and at least 5, this year alone. What have we done in response other than resort to Courts seeking the enforcement of our rights to peacefully protest?”

PoliticsPresidency Insists NASS Distorted 2018 Budget by 16Ebisco(op): 12:30pm On Jun 23, 2018
The presidency has reacted to the response of the National Assembly justifying its amendment of the 2018 Budget.

Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, who replied the lawmakers, insisted that what they did was distortion that would adversely affect some key projects.

He said: “Throughout the budget consideration process the executive, through the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, was in touch with the National Assembly. The executive was approached by the National Assembly who indicated that they intended to increase the benchmark price by US$5, from US$45 to US$50.

“Out of the US$5 increase the National Assembly informed the Executive that they intended to utilize US$2 (amounting to about N170 billion) for projects selected by themselves. They asked the Executive to suggest important projects that could be accommodated with the funds arising from the balance of US$3.

“After some consideration, the Executive was of the view that an increase in the benchmark price of crude oil to US$50 was not unrealistic and the President decided to accept this in the spirit of compromise required for a successful budget exercise. The Executive had, in that spirit, suggested that from the additional funds arising out of the US$3 increase, $1.25 from the increase should not be appropriated as expenditure, but utilized to reduce the deficit in the budget. “

“The Executive therefore restricted itself to submitting, for the consideration of the National Assembly, important items that could be funded from US$1.75 of the US$3 increase. NASS eventually raised the benchmark price to US$51, apparently to accommodate the additional allocations to Health and NDDC.

“The Executive is therefore surprised that with an additional sum of N170 billion Naira available for the National Assembly to spend on Constituency Projects, together with the sum of N100 billion Naira, already provided for in the Budget, that the National Assembly should feel it necessary to cut allocations to important national projects, and thereby distort the Budget, in order to further increase their allocation for Constituency projects. How much is enough!

“The President’s position is clear from paragraph 12k of the President’s speech, where he said “About 70 new road projects have been inserted into the budget of the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing. In doing so, the National Assembly applied some of the additional funds expected from the upward review of the oil price benchmark to the Ministry’s vote. Regrettably, however, in order to make provision for some of the new roads, the amounts allocated to some strategic major roads have been cut by the National Assembly”.

PoliticsSacking Of 28,000 Workers: APC Lied Again, Says Bayelsa Govt. by 16Ebisco(op): 5:37am On Jun 23, 2018
The Bayelsa State Government has debunked claim by the All Progressives Congress led by Chief Timipre Silva that the government has sacked 28,000 workers as a fallout of the on-going reforms.

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said in a statement yesterday that the claim made by the Chairman, Jonathan Amos, only confirmed the APC in the state as a party that thrives on lies and fraud.

Jonathan had lampooned the state government for sacking 28, 000 workers from the state civil service in the on going reform. He spoke while the party was receiving the Commissioner for Youth Development, Ibarakumo Otobo, who resigned his assignment as cabinet member of the Gov. Dickson led Peoples Democratic Party (APC) to join the APC

Speaking in a statement made available to The Guardian yesterday, Iworiso-Markson said that Jonathan and his faction of the APC only made a failed attempt to discredit the well intentioned and generally received public sector reforms in Bayelsa.

He said that media reports quoting the factional APC Chairman as having described his imagined sack of 28,000 workers as regrettable only shows that he and his misled followers are not abreast of developments in Bayelsa.

The Commissioner said that it was not exactly unexpected for Diaspora and seasonal politicians to display crass ignorance and cling onto anything including lies to seek political relevance.

The Commissioner stressed that the blackmail from the APC was an indication of corruption fighting the reforms designed to free Bayelsa from the greedy talons of payroll vultures.

He added that any politician attempting to attack the reforms and the removal of fictitious names from the payroll was an enemy of Bayelsa and her people.

He stated that that only those who do not mean well for the state and the unemployed graduates in Bayelsa would fault the genuine intention of the government to rid the public service of ghost workers, over aged personnel and others to create space for employment into the public service.

The Commissioner described the commencement of the ongoing exercise to engage 1000 workers into the public service as a pointer to the benefits of the reforms in addition to the huge financial reprieve from the removal of ghost names from the payroll.

SportsNigeria Vs Iceland: Ahmed Musa’s Brace Keeps Super Eagles’ Hopes Alive by 16Ebisco(op): 7:11pm On Jun 22, 2018
Ahmed Musa netted a stunning brace, as Nigeria beat Iceland 2-0 in their second Group D fixture at the 2018 World Cup.

The Leicester City winger was recalled to the starting XI, along with Kelechi Iheanacho and Kenneth Omeruo, as Gernot Rohr reverted to a 3-5-2 formation for the crunch encounter.

There were no goals in the first half, as the Super Eagles struggled to settle in and the Vikings failed to convert some of their early chances.

However, in the second half, Musa controlled a cross from Victor Moses and lashed in the opener.

He completed his brace few minutes later, after controlling a long pass and striding into the area to finish confidently.

The win gives Nigeria three points and takes them into second place, ahead of next week’s decider against Argentina.

EducationSex-for-marks: NANS Speaks On Sack Of OAU Lecturer by 16Ebisco(op): 8:09am On Jun 22, 2018
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has lauded the Senate of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife for relieving a lecturer, Prof. Richard Akindele of his duty for involving in a sex scandal.

DAILY POST reports that the Obafemi Awolowo University sacked Professor Richard Akindele for allegedly demanding sex from Monica Osagie to upgrade her mark.

The NANS’ National Public Relations Officer, Mr Bestman Okereafor, made this remark in a statement on Thursday in Enugu.

Okereafor said that NANS believed that sacking the lecturer was in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to the fight against all forms of Human Rights abuse within government and its institutions.

He said that it would serve as a deterrent to other lecturers, who might be nurturing similar habit or already indulging in such misconduct on campuses across the federation.

Okereafor said that NANS implored the university to as a matter of urgency, prosecute the lecturer in a court of competent jurisdiction to face the full wrath of the law.

According to him, NANS is also calling on the female students to shun indecent dressing within and outside the campuses so that they can always protect the dignity of motherhood.

“The leadership of the over 40.1 million Nigerian students both at home and the diaspora under the auspices of NANS, salutes the authority of OAU for its decision,’’ he said.

SportsWorld Cup 2018: Rohr Finally Gives Reason Nigeria Lost 2-0 To Croatia by 16Ebisco(op): 8:44am On Jun 21, 2018
Coach Gernot Rohr has finally opened up on the real season Super Eagles players did not perform well in their first game at the Russia 2018 World against Croatia.

The Super Eagles fell 2-0 to the Balkans last weekend and the German seemed to have been keeping the truth to himself ever since.

But addressing his Wednesday press conference ahead of Friday’s second match against Iceland, the former Bayern Munich defender admitted that nine players named in the starting lineup were nervous.

He said the players were nervous playing in their first World Cup match against Croatia.

The Super Eagles stars that started a World Cup game for the first time in their careers are: Francis Uzoho, Troost-Ekong, Leon Balogun, Abdullahi Shehu, Brian Idowu, Oghenekaro Etebo, Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi and Odion Ighalo.

Rohr said, ”9 out of the 11 players in the starting line-up against Croatia played their first World Cup match.

”Of course, nerves played a role there. But we worked on our set-pieces – both the offensive and the defensive ones. We know that we need to improve them.

”Our group is a tough one – the best in this World Cup, in my opinion. We should always keep that in mind. Croatia has one of the best midfield in the world.

”If you consider that, our organization wasn’t so bad. Croatia’s first goal was an own goal. Their first shot on target was in the 71st minute and it was a penalty. Therefore, we need to stay calm and focus on the next game.”

Foreign AffairsIsrael: U.s. Withdraws From Un Human Rights Commission (must Read) by 16Ebisco(op): 8:39am On Jun 20, 2018
The United States on Tuesday withdrew from the United Nations Human Rights Council accusing it of a “chronic bias against Israel.”

The decision was announced by U.S. envoy to the UN, Nikki Haley in Washington after she slammed Russia, China, Cuba and Egypt for thwarting U.S. efforts to reform the council.

Harley also criticized countries which shared U.S. values and encouraged Washington to remain but “were unwilling to seriously challenge the status quo.”

The U.S. is half-way through a three-year term on the main U.N. rights body and the Trump administration had long threatened to quit if the 47-member Geneva-based body was not overhauled, NAN reports.

“Look at the council membership (Venezuela, China, Cuba and Democratic Republic of Congo.) and you see an appalling disrespect for the most basic rights.

“Disproportionate focus and unending hostility toward Israel is clear proof that the council was motivated by political bias, not by human rights.”

Washington’s withdrawal is the latest U.S. rejection of multilateral engagement after it pulled out of the Paris climate agreement and the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

Travel1500 Nigerians In Italian Prisons – Envoy by 16Ebisco(op): 9:57pm On Jun 18, 2018
The Italian Ambassador to Nigeria, Stefanou Pontesilli, says no fewer than 1500 Nigerians are serving jail terms for various offences in Italy.

Pontesilli who made the disclosure in an interview with newsmen in Abuja said the number was huge.

”In Italy we have about 1500 Nigerians in jail for various offences. It is a big number.

”We sometimes send them back to Nigeria once they finished their terms because they have not behaved well, ” he said.

He however denied reports that Italy sometimes send Nigerian migrants from Italy to Libya.

”Never, we never sent anyone not even one single person to Libya.”Some Nigerians are stuck in Libya because they were never able to cross over to Italy, but all those who went to Italy no one, not even one was ever sent back.

”All Nigerians who have reached Italy and are behaving well have no problem.

”Not one of them not even one has heard of being sent back to Libya,” he said.

According to him, thousands of Nigerians unable to cross from Libya to Italy have been stuck in Libya.

”Thank God the government is doing a lot to repatriate them through chattered flights.

”Thanks for the help from the European Union and the International Organisation for Migrations that are slowly repatriating them back to Nigeria,” he said.

The envoy said that the relationship between Italy and Nigeria remained stronger.

”That is why Italy has been doing so much on the migration by saving tens and thousands of the Nigerians’ lives when crossing the Mediterranean.

”Authority has been doing so much by taking them to Italy, feeding them, getting them jobs, giving them house and trying to give them a new life,” Pontesilli said.

He said that Italy had also done a lot in trying to help Nigeria maintain security and stability.

”This to Italy is very important, the stability and the security of Nigeria is our foremost consideration.

”We think that without a stable secure country there cannot be development.

”So that’s why we stand strongly behind President Muhammadu Buhari trying to establish a strong, safe and stable Nigeria.

”This to us is the number one priority of the country, we are doing all we can to support this,” he said.

The envoy disclosed that the Italian government had been involved in training many Nigerian officials from the military, police and immigration.
