There is a series of lessons on this site http://naijadukes.net on "How to build a webserver in java". The series is just starting so Java Newbies will benefit a lot by going there. The lesson is in the Newbies Section and we are just on lesson 1. Java Gurus too are invited to give comments on the source code and put in one or two performance tweaks.

The purpose is how do you introduce some advanced java topics and still keep the learner interested. Those two things are not always friends. So I am building this as a training trail not becos I want it to replace Apache Web Server lol

OK. If You r looking for some REAL java problems to solve take a look at JMF (Java Media Framework). Here is the home page -> http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jmf/index.jsp so you know where to start. it has been dead since 1999. Right now i need a codec (Coder/Decoder) for the 3GP file format (.3gp). You can learn about the format here -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3GP and read up on the spec etc here http://www.3gpp.org/specs/specs.htm . So if you can come up with the codec, You would have added much value (internationally) to the Java community and JMF especially.
