The first thing everyone does before they launch is site is to decide what the site is about. Using the pot analogy by yawa-ti-de unless you have a magic pot, no one is going to fill it up.

what do you mean by you put up a site but don't have content you should have made provision for content b/4 starting the site have you ever heard of the phrase content is king?

You should pull down the site. First things first, you have to ask yourself some questions like;
Why do I want a site?
What content will suite the purpose of your site?
Where to source for content for your site?
And many more.

I think most people who call emselves web devs still needs some basic orientations.
How can you really get a website without knowing what to put there? maybe money too plenty for ur hand ni sha, or u forcefully wanna follow the trend.

See, there are two things to these,
1. We have Website Design (which is the pen and paper representation of what ur site will look like)
2. Website Development (which is the actual implementation of what you have planned.)

Then u need to sit down and think it all out, its better when u get the idea of what u wanna do urself, than when someone tells it to u.
