After watching over 60 matches in 3weeks, why does fifa feel we still wanna see people battle out for 3rd place. It's easy to know who came third without subjecting us to another match. If Netherlands lost their semi on penalties and Brazil got whipped 7-1, you dome need a soothe sayer to tell u Netherlands came third for stats sake.
Even fifa knows this deep down and that's why after 90mins, there is no extra time but penalties straight. I applaud Europe for not organising a 3rd place match in the euros cos they know it's worthless.
I Remember in 98 when Croatia beat the dutch to come third, that was only half the story. The dutch known as the best team not to win the world cup came into the tournament with a very strong squad with their eyes on the prize but lost d semi to Brazil in a penalty shoot out. The disappointment was still there to see as they filed out to play Croatia in the third place match and they still couldn't recover as they lost d match to Croatia who had over -achieved and thereby treated the match as a final. The dutch without any motivation couldn't give a damn.
This match is irrelevant and am sure Brazil after their humiliation don't wanna play football so soon. But seriously why do u need 90min to play a match with 3rd as a reward

football is beyond the pitch these days, it tests your mental strength too. Brazil Should See This As A Chance To Make Their Fans Smile Not An Insult As You See It.

Van gaal and now mourinho have expressed their displeasure with the concept. That match will feel like a punishment.

Both lost in the semis but 1 would eventually win the 3rd place. It is called 'consolation'

So why don't the euros organise this to get third place??
Why isn't this done in the champions league or FA cup??
It's not like the olympics where there is an actual bronze medal to strive for and of which the winner will forever called an olympian.

Uefa champions league is winner takes all, so is the FA cup. There is actually a medal for 3rd place at the world cup (I think). Moreover world cup is held once in 4 years, 3rd place medal is a worthy consolation.

FA cup and champions league is played every year but world cup comes every 4 years.

Euro cup comprises of just 16 teams but WC comprises of a bunch of 32 teams so the idea of a prize and consolation prizes for 3 out of a bulk of 32 isnt a bad one.

I don't even understand d concept behind the 3rd place...for those claiming euro is 16 teams...afcon also is 16teams and they also play third place...

Because to me no one remember a loser in the final...not to talk of 3rd place winners
