yesterday, Uche wanted to buy a bag of Thailand rice , the type Yaya bought for a certain amount 1 week ago . But on getting there , the price has increased by 0.59 , he had no option than to go home and come back the next day which is today , but because of the coming sallah the price has also increased by 0.67 compared with yesterday's price , now he is going home again and will definitely buy it tomorrow . Assume that the price tomorrow will not increase at all , but he wants to buy 5 yards of Ankara which is just 50% of the amount Yaya bought his Thailand rice , express in terms of the amount he took to market today (1) the amount yaya bought his own type of rice (2) the amount Uche will take to market tomorrow .

Uche went 1 week later and rice was 1.59X/bag
And following day up again by 67% : 2.6553X
Ankara costs 50% this: 1.32765X

PS: I am assuming all increases are percentage values??

Price of rice last week =x
Price of rice yesterday =y =1.59x
Price of rice today =z =1.59x*1.67=2.6553x
Price of Ankara =0.5x


Q1. Express x in terms of y.
x= y/1.59= 0.6289y.

Q2. Amt Uche will take to the market,
(exp. in terms of y)
Price of rice= 2.6553x = 2.6553*0.6289= 1.67y
Price of Ankara = 0.5x = 0.5*0.6289= 0.31445y

Total = 1.984y
(exp in terms of x)
1.984*1.59 =3.155x

I made a mistake with my Ankara price interpretation, @McWhillion solution looks to correct...good job.
