All I can tell u, is that u take your time

you can be a good coder without going to UNiv cos am not a graduate and am preparing for Certification,

but you need to be a graduate to get a good high paying job in a country like Nigerian.

to be good, u don't need univ but you need certification to replace it. the you can go for degree later.

in case of more INFO mail quadri20_wale [a] yahoo.com

Well bross,

To me neither Uni nor Cert  guarantees you good programming skills.

because at Uni, you will only leran the theories with no practical (every nigerian knows that).

And another thing is that many students struggle to get good grades by cramming their lesson notes and as such, you won't want to be underated, so you might find yourself in that kind situation.

For cert as well, you focus will be 70% (if not 100%) on how to get the cert and not what you have to learn. That's y any people look for dumps.

To me programming is not what you learn but what you know.

did I hear you saying how?

I mean programming is not the syntax you learn, but you personal logic.

To me it's the programmer's logic we call programming and not any language

Oh! BigStar I am so feeling you. You gave just the right answers at the right time. Let me drop a secret: I dropped out willingly from the university to focus on building just my programming skills and to breed my growing software company. I was in 200 Level, studying Elect/Elect in UNILAG. It took me 4months to make the decision, and i would say i have no regrets so ever. Recently i wanted to employ a so-called first-class graduate of computer science to be my Chief Technology Officer, but he didnt no what .NET was or even how to run a JAVA application on any platform!

So UNI and building up urself are two extremes. i am not against anybody going to school the choice is just yours to make.

I recently started designing a game with my team members and what we are thinking of creating I doubt if any Computer Science Professor in Nigeria can grasp only the thinking model. And do you know the bright side? We havent started thinking of what language to use to build the game!

Just stick to your process and you would definitely become a GURU! Remember: THE PROCESS IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE GOAL.

Safe!

That it is loardbenax. Nigeria Unis are like that, so it's left for us to develop ourselves.

We do this by sharing knowledge.

In short, i wish u carry me along in ur projects.

Guys, please i'd like to know what it takes for one to be a good programmer. Must one be good in mathematics and and any other course that entails calculation before one can be a good programmer? I'd love to be a successful programmer some day.
