The police in Abuja detained African Independent Television (AIT) journalist Amaechi Anakwe over comments made on a radio programme.
Anakwe was arrested allegedly on the orders of Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 7, Mr Mbu Joseph Mbu.
He was said to have made the comments during a morning programme “Political Platform” aired on Ray Power, the radio arm of AIT, in which he described Mbu as a controversial person.
Men from the Zone 7 Police Command arrested Anakwe shortly after the programme was aired.
The journalist was still in detention at the time of filing this report last night.
When contacted, the Police Force Spokesman, acting Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Ojukwu said: “we are dealing with the issue. It is being resolved, the police and the media are good partners.”
