Just like the ironic "bail is free" with the corrupt NPF. Institutional corruption is very difficult to tame in Nigeria because the leadership is corrupt @ every strata.

This is actually different as it is yet to become a norm. And it is criminal and they know it. One thing they won't want is for this to get out. Ondo State Governement won't be happy. Likewise, the correctional service can't afford another scandal considering the recent one involving Bobrisky. More so, it's the same Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison again.

The Ondo State Government recently pardoned some inmates from the state and ordered the immediate release of those affected.

Many inmates after being sentenced are transferred to prison facilities in different parts of the country to serve out their terms. Some having long prison terms stay at several prisons during the course of their sentences.

Enter inmates sentenced by the Ondo State Government and recently granted pardon by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa who are scattered across the country serving their sentences.

This claim concerns only Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison. I don't know of other ones and so can't speak for them.

Inmates among those recommended for pardon by the Ondo State Board of Mercy and signed by the Governor have been mandated to pay 150k by the prison officials before they would allow them to go.

The Governor's directive was that they be let go with immediate effect (free of charge, of course), but for almost 2 weeks they're still being unlawfully held in Maximum. The prison has insisted the amount mentioned above must be paid before they're let go.

This is not a condition given by the Ondo State Government, Federal Government, nor the Correctional Service. Only Kirikiri Maximum correctional officers concocted this means of extortion to take advantage of these inmates' vulnerability and desperation.

Oppression anywhere is oppression everywhere. Illegality anywhere is illegality everywhere. Evil thrives when good men look on and do nothing. Where do they want people who have been incarcerated for more than 20 years to see that kind of money?

Please let's copy anyone who help stop this exploitation--journalists, Ondo State Government, Nigeria Correctional Service, VDM, etc. Anyone. Share on your social media. Someone's aged mother who has waited for so long will pay anything (whether she can afford it or not) to finally see her son home. Please let's not allow such people to be taken advantage of.🙏
