Christianity EtcWhat Was The Relationship Between David And Jonathan? by 1goodman(op): 12:20am On Oct 18, 2014
Question: "What was the relationship
between David and Jonathan?"
Answer: We know from 1 Samuel 18:1 that
Jonathan loved David. Second Samuel 1:26 records
David’s lament after Jonathan’s death, in which
he said that his love for Jonathan was more
wonderful than the love of a woman. Some use
these two passages to suggest a homosexual
relationship between David and Jonathan. This
interpretation, however, should be rejected for at
least three reasons.
First, the Hebrew word for “love” used here is not
the typical word used for sexual activity. This
word for “love” has clear political and diplomatic
connotations (see 1 Samuel 16:21 and 1 Kings 5:1 ).
Second, David’s comparison of his relationship with
Jonathan with that of women is probably a
reference to his experience with King Saul’s
daughter. He was promised one of Saul’s daughters
for killing Goliath. But Saul continued to add
conditions upon this marriage with the underlying
desire to have David killed in battle (1 Samuel
18:17 , 25 ). The love David had received from
Jonathan was greater than anything he could have
received from Saul’s daughter. Third, the Bible
clearly and consistently denounces homosexuality
( Genesis 1:26-27 ; Leviticus 18:22 ; 20:13 ; Romans
1:18-25 ). Extolling a homosexual love between David
and Jonathan would be contradicting the
prohibitions of it found throughout the Bible.
The friendship between David and Jonathan was a
covenantal relationship. In 1 Samuel 18:1-5 , we
read of David and Jonathan forming an
agreement. In this agreement, Jonathan was to be
second in command in David’s future reign, and
David was to protect Jonathan’s family ( 1 Samuel
20:16-17 , 42 ; 23:16-18 ).
Obviously, these two men were also very good
friends. In their relationship we can see at least
three qualities of true friendship. First, they
sacrificed for one another. In 1 Samuel 18:4 , we
read that Jonathan gave David his clothes and
military garb. The significance of this gift was
that Jonathan recognized that David would one
day be king of Israel. Rather than being envious or
jealous, Jonathan submitted to God’s will and
sacrificed his own right to the throne. Second, in
1 Samuel 19:1-3 , we read of Jonathan’s loyalty
toward and defense of David. King Saul told his
followers to kill David. Jonathan rebuked his
father and recalled David’s faithfulness to him in
killing Goliath. Finally, Jonathan and David were
also free to express their emotions with one
another. In 1 Samuel 20 , we read of a plan
concocted by Jonathan to reveal his father’s plans
toward David. Jonathan was going to practice his
archery. If he told his servant that the arrows he
shot were to the side of the target, David was
safe. If Jonathan told his servant that the
arrows were beyond the target, David was to leave
and not return. Jonathan told the servant that
the arrows were beyond the target, meaning that
David should flee. After releasing his servant,
Jonathan found David and the two men cried
together.
Rather than being evidence for a homosexual
relationship in the Bible, the account of David
and Jonathan is an example of true biblical
friendship. True friendship, according to the Bible,
involves loyalty, sacrifice, compromise, and yes,
emotional attachment. That is what we should
learn from David and Jonathan. The idea that
the only person in the Bible described as “a man
after God’s own heart” (Acts 13:22 ), was a
practicing homosexual (or bisexual) is ridiculous
and has no true biblical basis.

Politics10 Facts About Bokoharam by 1goodman(op): 7:22pm On Oct 17, 2014
10 facts about militant group
Boko Haram
1. It was founded by Mohammed
Yusuf in 2002
Born in 1970, Yusuf was a Muslim
sect leader and founded Boko Haram
as its spiritual leader. He was killed
in the 2009 Boko Haram Uprising
while in police custody – a conflict
between the militant group and
Nigerian security forces that led to
more than 1000 deaths. He had four
wives and 12 children. There is some
discrepancy around how he died, the
Nigerian government claiming it was
during a fight but a video interview
of Yusuf in prison disputes this.
2. The group is now run by Abubakar
Shekau
Shekau served as deputy leader to
Yusuf and authorities believed he
had been killed in the 2009 clash,
but he appeared in a video in 2010
claiming leadership. He posts videos
online stating that he ‘cannot be
stopped’ and in his recent video
claiming responsibility for the
abduction of the 300 girls.
He described the girls as “slaves”
and said “By Allah, I will sell them
in the marketplace.”
3. It’s full name is The Congregation
of the People of Tradition for
Proselytism and Jihad
It is better known by its Hausa
name, Boko haram, loosely meaning
“Western education is sinful.”
4. It is designated as a terrorist
group
Gen Ham, commander of the US
Africa Command (Africom) believes
that there are links between Boko
Haram and al-Qaeda. He believes that
that they are sharing explosives and
funds.
On October 13, 2013, the US government
designated the group as a terrorist
organisation.
5. It was a peaceful group until
2009
Yusuf founded the group with the
intention of establishing a sharia
government in Borneo State. Sharia
essentially means the religious law
(including crime, politics and
economics) of a prophetic religion –
in English it usually identified with
Islam.
Yusuf set up a religious complex
that included a school where many
poor families sent their children.
Yusuf began recruiting future
jihadists, using the high
unemployment, poverty and political
corruption of Nigeria to encourage
people to join.
6. The Nigerian government launched
investigations in 2009 which brought
the beginnings of violence
With reports that the group was
arming itself, the Nigerian
government began taking action.
Several arrests resulted in deadly
clashes that resulted in the deaths
of more than 1000 people.
7. The violence is escalating
There were an estimated 3600 people
killed by the group between 2010 and
2013, while more than 1500 have
died in the insurgency this year.
8. Nigerian police, military and
government have contributed to its
success of Boko Haram
Despite Nigeria’s wealth due to its
oil, around 75 per cent of its
population is considered poor. The
police and military are known to
execute prisoners without trial and
there has been factional fighting
between the northern Islamic Fulani
and southern Christian Berom tribes,
that included a conflict between 2001
and 2004 that left more than 50,000
people dead.
9. The group doesn’t represent Islam
Boko Haram has come under much
criticism by Muslim leaders,
including Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu,
the Niger State governor and The
Sulton of Sokoto Sa’adu Abubakar, the
spiritual leader of Nigerian Muslims,
as not representing Islam, and even
anti-Islam.
“Islam is known to be a religion of
peace and does not accept violence
and crime in any form and Boko
Haram doesn’t represent Islam,” says
Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu.
10. Boko Haram kills both Muslims
and Christians alike
There are varied reports of how
many Nigerians are Christian or
Muslim – but the margin between
them is slim – with around half of
the population Christian and half
Muslim. Boko Haram has instigated
attacks on both Muslims and
Christians alike, indicating that the
group is not necessarily influenced by
religion, but also by corruption and
poverty. The group has blown up
schools, religious buildings, sports
venues and even family dinners.

CultureRe: 10 Cultural Taboos In Yorubaland! (things You Must Never Do) by 1goodman: 11:06pm On Sep 30, 2014
cirmuell: https://manipuronline.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/taboo.gif

Every Tribe, Clan and Race on Earth has it own cultural taboo and the tribe Yoruba is not an exception.
In Yorubaland, every clan & family has it own distinct taboo apart from the collective ones.
Notable people that died going against the taboos of the land.
*. IFAGBENLE ODEBUNMI- IBADAN
*. ADEYEMI OYEDOKUN- MOPA
*. MAKINDE EKUNRIN- OYO

Sad thing is, New generation Yorubas don't even know about most of these taboos, most weren't born here. And what more...speaking the language in some homes & schools is a "taboo" talk more of knowing about thier culture.

*. The consequence of most of these taboos is certain death.

*. I'm not posting this to affirm these stuffs or dispute their authenticity, I just think it's worth sharing.

1. No King in the whole of Yorubaland must ever set his eyes inside the crown of his head.

2. If someone dies in a river, he must be buried beside the river. His corpse must never be returned home for burial to avoid mass death in that house. Even the whites know about this, yeah, Mungo Park.

3. Used Cotton bud that's got ear wax on it must never find it ways to the private part of both sexes.

4. Okètè (Grasscutter) It is believed that once it stands on it hinds leg, you must never kill it. Why? well, A child born to the killer of this weird animal will die the day he/she makes the first attempt to walk on his/her two legs.

5. Igbeti, OYO State- Iyamopo mountain(Rock) No visitor must climb this mountain on "Ajakuta day"(the day after Igbeti's market day)

6. The DunDun Drum also known as Gangan a very popular two-sided drum in yoruba land. Very popular for its unique sound, it can be used to pass across messages(talking drum). But, no matter how angry or offended the hearer is about the message being passed across, he must never pierce this drum with a knife in the midst of a crowd or gatherings. The one who does will end up with diseases and sicknesses that will eventually end his life.

7. The Cry of a Chameleon it is a belief in Yoruba land that a ear that hears the cry/wail/sound made by this animal will forever go deaf. shocked

8. Onikoyi clan/family of OYO State must never taste the meat of a Okete(grasscutter). There is a story behind this.

9. Oyan & Iresi towns of Osun state- Isoko River An Oyan born person must never drink from the waters of "Isoko River". why?
The story goes that, many years ago, an Oyan born lady went to Iresi town to marry. And after a very long years of childlessness, she gave birth to a boy. On a fateful day, the boy was easing himself when a dog came along and ate up the boy's you-know-what and the boy died. The woman cried and wailed "Ko sí oko ni idi omo mi mo o"(my boy's penis is gone) "Aja ti ja oko ni'di omo mi"(the dog has cut off my boy's penis). The pain and agony of this is what got the woman angry and she turned into a river(the river was named after the word the woman kept shouting that day "Kos'oko"wink years of contraction of words gave birth to the word "Isoko". And it became a taboo for anyone born in Oyan town to drink from that water.(since she's one of their own).

10. Otun-Ekiti- Ekiti State Once a King(OORE) is crowned in this town, he must never set his eyes on his parents henceforth..

Copyright Owner: Omobode Ayanda, he released a video cd years back "ÈÈWÒ Ile Yoruba". I selected some, interpreted and decided to share it with you guys. smiley
I strongly disagree wt point no 1: the ologotun of ogotun-ekiti is the only king that can look inside his crown...
I stand to be corrected if I'm wrong.
PoliticsBin Laden Son-in-law Sentenced To Life In US by 1goodman(op): 5:43am On Sep 24, 2014
Suleiman Abu Ghaith, a son-in-law of Osama bin
Laden, was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday
in New York following his conviction on terrorism
charges.
A Manhattan federal jury in March found the
Kuwaiti-born 48-year-old guilty of conspiring to
kill Americans, conspiring to provide material
support for terrorists and providing such support.
US District Judge Lewis Kaplan, addressing Abu
Ghaith, said it was his “assessment that you are
committed to doing everything you can to carry
out al Qaeda’s agenda to kill Americans.”
Abu Ghaith, who was arrested in Turkey, is one of
the highest-ranking al Qaeda figures to be
brought to the United States to face a civilian
trial. Evidence against him included videos and
audio recordings, prosecutors said.
Abu Ghaith appeared in videos representing al
Qaeda after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.
