ofcourse, one is not on a mission to get the audience discombobulated, but what especially makes a poem standout from other literary genre is the more connotative sense embedded in the writing or tone itself.
I beg to disagree. What makes poetry unique from other works of art are the structures, rhythmic tonality or the musicality of the poem and how the poem establishes certain degree of artistic values while still passing its message.

So good to clamour for change
So good to dream of a new dawn
So good to hope and have it manifest
So good to believe and dream comes true.

The poem is not poetic and connotative... You had only one thing in mind and that is to discredit someone.. This is a poem I wrote few minutes back ...

It just came back
That awareness of me
The pen grounded to write
of words that are paramount
One in parallel with thoughts

Pasting this just to indicate I understand the genre of literary composition, at least to decipher one that can't be given the tag 'poem'..

GOODLUCK!

I WANT A DIVORCE!

¤ What significant thing have you achieved in our 16 years of marriage?
¤ Don't you know our union is already old enough for visible progress?
¤ Is it until our marriage gets to 1600 years before you become mature?
¤ Is it until all your mates get grandchildren before you man up?

¤ Every day and night, you share pain to everyone around you.
¤ Dose after Dose, Plate after Plate
¤ And you sleep so comfortable at night
¤ Jeez!! are you saTAN

¤ For the past 4 years, you've been boasting about your new farming skills,
¤ You promised the children and I, that we won't starve again
¤ But we keep on struggling to buy expensive food from our neighbours!
¤ Where are your farm produce? where are they?

¤ Jide, Musa and Chike have been at home more than they have been to school,
¤ It's either you don't pay their school fees,
¤ or you are fighting with their teachers
¤ While their younger cousin - Appiah, has graduated since!

¤ This is the 16th year since you promised me electricity,
¤ Yet, our children still use candles to read at night, we hardly watch TV!
¤ Sometimes I think it's impossible for electricity to be constant,
¤ But My younger brother - Mandela has constant electricity in his house!

¤ Boom Boom!! Pa Pa!! this has been the most popular song for 4 years now!
¤ Death dances to this music, and it forces everyone around to dance!
¤ Fathers, Mothers, brothers, sisters, crops and animals all destroyed!
¤ Is it until the children and I get destroyed before you act?

¤ Hey! stop staring at me like that!
¤ Okayy, we had some good times together,
¤ But can those good memories wash away the pains of your recklessness, irresponsibility and stark, daylight wickedness?
¤ Can it heal the injuries caused by your neglect, selfishness and constant torture?

¤ Henceforth, I - Mama Nigeria, say no to crying my eyes to sleep daily!
¤ I say no to playing the good, naive wife to a useless husband!
¤ I say no to staying under this rusty, leaking umbrella of yours!
¤ I want a Change! I'm getting a divorce!!!!!
Nice one
God bless the General

But u sud av include two more lines that says:

Ermm... I never said I was good! This is my 1st poem ever!

You are.. I did not mention you are not.. High breed poems from likes like Geoffrey Chaucer, William Shakespeare, William Woodsworth tend to be connotative most times if not all..

At the beginning of my comment I stated 'The poem' ,so for one, it is a poem. I went further to qualify it with the adjective 'not poetic and connotative' just to say make it more deep and for it to instill more reasoning afterall poems are not for 'quacks' to read but for deep thinkers with wild imagination. Let me read the poem and imagine how you felt exactly when those words were constructed and even go further to feel the place and surroundings in which you were in when you wrote it.

Poems can be constructed for the sole purpose of discrediting.. To correct my initial flawed point. But I believe essays do well to pass discrediting wordings (my opinion)..

I like your 7th Verse.. Hey!

We are learning here. Nothing more beautiful than expressing one's thoughts through poems..

Hope we learn better.

Looking beyond the alacrity in this as a political tract, I will proudly say that this is one of the best poems I have read in recent time.

Painting Nigeria as though it's a woman is a great work of art and as a starter, you are indeed good. With little or much editing, that poem can be more artistic.

Write more, please.

President Jonathan is the Best Thing that has Ever
Happened to Nigeria.
1] Goodluck Jonathan signed FOI bill that Obasanjo
refused to sign and you join then in saying that
Goodluck is bad.
2] Goodluck approved N18,000 Minimum wage from
N7,500 Which Obasanjo refused to sign and you say
that Goodluck is bad and NYSC
allowance from N7,500 to nearly approved N39,500.
3] Goodluck dualized federal roads (about 25,000km)
which Obasanjo and past Govts abandoned.
4] The rail system is working now, with little budget But
Obasanjo Sunk billions of dollars without result, other
pasts leader ignored.
5] Goodluck has been conducting free and fair elections
whereas the ones conducted under Obasanjo are
Shameful and national disgrace.
6] Goodluck established 12 new universities, 9 in the
North to improve learning and knowledge and increase
the Jambites admission rate.
7] Goodluck established the Almajiri system for Northern
abandoned street children and those deprived of
education by their own people.
8] Goodluck has been building dams and improving the
country's power from 2500mW to 6,000MW - And
successfully privatized the sector which many analyst
believed is the best way to go.
9] Agriculture have been revamped and for the first time
in Nigerian history, Food prices came down during
Christmas, instead of skyrocketing.
10] 2013 and 2014 was the Christmas in Nigeria, where
Nigerian did not sleep in filling stations for 3 to 4 days
to get Petrol or 100s of people being roasted alive in
attempts to get fuel in petrol stations, wickedly, you
joined them to say that our God given President is not
performing.
11] Airports are wearing world class looks and every
zone have International airport.
12] This administration has employed more people in
their 5years in office than any other in the history of
Nigeria [Via Agric, Energy sector,16 New Car Companies,
12 New Universities, 3,826 primary Health care Centers,
Teaching Hospitals] SURE-P, YOUWIN.
Now do you think that General Muhammadu Buhari will
perform Magic, which he could not do when he was in
his 40s, if you vote him?
It is left for You to Answer this Simple.Without APC ,the media would have been sane
Without APC ,chibok girls would still be with their parents
Without APC ,the north would have been peaceful and their economy would have increased
Without APC ,Buhari would have retired from politics.
Since APC brainwashed Buhari,we have witnessed incessant killings of innocent people, just to discredit Gej and now they have come up with another propaganda.
What is wrong with the fg training our military personnel ?
APC is demonic, don't vote for the blood thirsty janjaweedians on horse back.
Vote wisely!Face issues.
1.)Mention one school buhari built, and I will vote for him.
2.)mention any report of Buhari assisting Jonathan to fight boko haram and i will vote for him
3.)mention one thing buhari has done for katsina state let alone northern Nigeria and i will vote for him.
4.)buhari is poor, has one bungalow and could not afford party ticket YET HIS DAUGHTER SCHOOLS ABROAD. IF AM LYING COUNTER ME AND I WILL VOTE FOR HIM.
5.) buhari the people's general so patriotic and incorruptible that -
a.) Amaechi is the D.G of his campaign
b.) Atiku, tinubu, oyegun, Rochas Okorocha, El-Rufai are in the same party with him
If they are not, i will vote for Buhari.
6.) Buhari loves the people so much that twice he has agreed to debate. Abi?
7.) buhari is so clean, he produces a certificate with a signature and no name. He is so faithful when asked to bring certificate he brings statement of result.
Be true to your self. The only people who will vote BUHARI are-
A.) those who are ethnically blind
B.) those who are open to religious politics
C.) those who shy away from the truth.
D.) those who are paid to deceive themselves and others to believe in Change!
The only change in Apc is the former PDP members holding brooms!
#unapologetic jonathanianWe Need more Cluelessness
*He is Clueless yet his Government was the first in the
World to conquer the dreaded Ebola Virus.
* He is Clueless yet under his leadership,Nigeria has
become the 3rd fastest growing economy in the world.
*He is Clueless yet his Minister for Agriculture has been
begged to come show the world how he eliminated
corruption and transformed the Agriculture sector.
*He is Clueless yet his Petroleum minister was elected to be
the First female President of OPEC.
*He is Clueless yet under his leadership, the Nigerian
Economy is Number one in Africa.
*He is Clueless yet he was able to Privatize the Power
sector which none could do before him.
* He is Clueless yet he has built more roads than any other
government before him.
*He is Clueless yet for the first time in our history,we now
have over 10 Automobile manufacturers in Nigeria.
*He is Clueless yet he's built over 12 tertiary institutions
within 4 years.
If all these were achieved by a clueless man,we need the
Cluelessness to continue till 2019.
