How Goodluck Jonathan Destroyed APC's Momentum - A Nairalander's Analysis. by RedEboe(m): 9:57pm On Feb 28, 2015
During the run-up to Feb 14th Presidential elections date, with roughly 60% PVC distribution, I was surprised at the mindset of APC leadership and its supporters.

The narrative of President Jonathan being 'clueless' must have eaten deep into the psyche of the APC. So, seriously, they (APC) expected an incumbent Nigerian President not to have an elaborate success strategy that must have been planned for months before the elections?

Did the APC really think that an experienced/incumbent PDP will go into a crucial Presidential elections without being atleast 80% sure of victory? APC must be filled with learners.

In all honestly APC's Campaign train has been very impressive, especially on the social media. At some point, many GEJ fans wondered (worried) why the PDP was not matching the APC 'campaign for campaign', propaganda for propaganda, lie for lie.

APC bought up most of the media advert spaces in major Nigerian cities, spending billions in the process. Unknown to APC, the PDP led them on, acting the 'clueless' script.

The APC 'foolishly' assumed that the Feb 14th election date was constitutional and sacrosant. When it dawned on them that a postponement was actually VERY constitutional, they began to cry ahead of time, counting on some U.S / International allies to discourage Nigeria from shifting poll dates.

Today, presidential elections have been shifted to March 28th, APC is facing near bankrupcy leaving many of their State Governors owing salaries.

Buhari's momentum is near dead on many platforms, still solid in the core-muslim North, but battling for survival every where else. Buhari's UK visit, fake Tony Blair and Abuja Hotel interview pictures did not help matters.

The Chatham house fiasco simply re-ignited calls for Buhari to attend a Presidential debate in Nigeria, in front of actual voters

On the social media, APC is feeling the heat. On Twitter for example, one @MrAyeDee has sent many pro-Buhari tweeps into hiding. On Nairaland, the story is the same as some prominent pro-Buhari Nairalanders have abandoned the 'CHANGE' train. Remnants of team 'Sai Buhari' on Nairaland now rely solely on their ability to conjure up as many LIKES as possible on any pro-Buhari thread or comment-that's where it ends.

The PDP-led federal government on the other hand has been pounding Boko Haram decisively, winning back lost territories and winning more Nigerian hearts in the process - the best campaign strategy ever.

I'd like to see who IDPs returning to their homes will end up voting for.

The APC for months had maligned and disrespected the Nigerian military's war on terror, many times helping to spread unverified rumors of Nigerian soldiers fleeing the battle front, or organising interviews with renegade soldiers accusing the military hierarchy of corruption.

Goodluck Jonathan kept faith with the Nigerian army, and today, I dare say that the Nigerian army as presently constituted has shown more loyalty to GEJ than any Nigerian President of living memory, not even Abacha (my own opinion).

Unconfirmed gist suggests that many Buhari campaigners have begun to secretly reachout to President Jonathan looking for soft-landing deals in exchange for support.

Let's see how it goes.

You're happy that GEJ who could not do anything about the islamic sect in almost six years all of sudden has found a way to defeat them in six weeks

You're happy that Buhari who has been rumoured to be receiving treatment in a UK hospital actually spoke in chatham house for an hour when PDP said he can't stand for five minutes

You're happy that an incumbent president has no achievement to drive him into a second tenure instead is shamefully attacking the personality of the opposition.

Op you gat wise up.

You know very little about politics, both party cannot maintain the pre feb tempo till march 28 wait till 2 weeks before election and see what happens, the whole country will be heated up again and be very certain APC has something very bad about the govt they will only release very close to the election, something tht will sway the major electorate. Think about this, why didn't APC release the ekiti election tape until so close to the election, why did you think DSS kept going after APC trying to see wht card they were playing at, did you really think they expected to find election rigging materials there ?...politics is a game of strategy, the plan is to sway the electorates and the reward is power. You know very little about politics

@OP, your analysis makes sense. APC really underestimated PDP and President Jonathan. They really in their hearts believe Jonathan is clueless inspite of obvious signs he is not. They took his gentle mien for foolishness and ended up being the foolish ones.

They also took Nigerians for fools believing they can get to the presidency on the alter of lies and senseless deceits. I pity people who were hoodwinked with the herd mentality.

Buhari was a very wrong choice against Jonathan, they claim Change and couldn't present their best to Nigerians rather foolishly holding on to the Northern agenda that PDP has discarded.

If APC is not careful, for foolishly wasting so much time and resources on Buhari who is not sellable, they might loose Lagos. While they are busy shouting Sai Buhari! Sai Buhari!! like goats overshadowing Ambode, Agbaje is busy warming himself into the hearts of Lagosians.

Next time they will know it's a lot easier, cheaper, less stressful and better to present your best candidate for the highest position than to present a poor candidate and stressfully try to sell him through lies, deceits and shameless propagandas to Nigerians.

On the army, they shot themselves in the foot, how do they expect the military whom they have so much abused and embarrassed to support them especially now that they are winning the war against insurgents through weapons purchased and delivered by GEJ? How do they expect Nigerians who are very happy with the military now to support these prophets of doom and proponents of negative news? One of my APC friends now call thier slogan 'Chain' instead of 'Change'. Smh.

Besides changing the date, the whole PVC distribution ratio and APC mindless push for the election to hold, made lots of Southerners mad. Mostly in the SW region, where the distribution was badly handed till of recent. People did not understand why APC wanted an election to take place, when 50% or more of the registered voters in their controlled states lacked PVC. Even their civil society/media friends were taken aback.

For pro-GEJites the 2015 campaign is about Buhari, Buhari and Buhari. For pro- GMBites the 2015 campaign is about Nigeria, Nigeria & Nigeria.

Questions for Jonathan and PDP
1. Why was (is) "Boko Haram" busy destroying
states and areas that the opposition party will
win convincingly in the presidential election?
2. If we are to believe that the opposition were
the brains and architects of "Boko Haram",
then why is it that they have never ever
attacked and destroyed any prominent PDP
figure or their properties?
3. If the opposition have the capability of
arming "terrorists" with armour tanks, RPGs,
AA Guns, military uniforms, military trucks,
helicopters and the ability to command
soldiers to vanish from military checkpoints,
wouldn't they have targeted to destroy PDP
strongholds and their assets?
4. Why would the opposition seek to destroy
their own strongholds anyway? To achieve
what?
5. Why was (is) "Boko Haram" targeting to
destroy basically only prominent northern
politicians and their traditional rulers and their
communities?
6. In the light of questions 1 to 5 above, why
has there been a deliberate campaign of lies
and propaganda by the PDP and their religious
wing that collect bribes in billions of naira that
"Boko Haram" is the baby of the opposition?
7. Of all the cars used by "suicide" bombers
retrieved from the scene of their attacks, to
whom were the cars traced after forensic
investigations? Why is it that nothing is ever
heard after such evidences have been collated
at the scenes since 2011?
8. At the last count, over 500 hundred "Boko
Haram" suspects have been in detention since
2009, but why is it that government hasn't
been able to come clean on those sponsoring
the "terrorists", and why is it that, with such a
huge treasure trove, government has not been
able to know and curtail the operational
methods of the "terrorists"?
9. Why did the "terrorists" become stronger
after a scandalous 33 billion dollars (over 4
trillion naira) was expended on the so called
war against them?
10. Isn't it curious and suspicious that a
ragtag group called "Boko Haram" whose bulk
of fighters possibly had only one week
trainings could overcome and overrun our
military men who spend 5 years in the NDA,
some months in Jaji, and some months also
at the National War College in Abuja apart
from several overseas trainings?
11. Why was it that, at a point from 2013, the
Nigerian military was not taking the war to
"Boko Haram" camps in the deserts of the
northeast instead of waiting for "Boko Haram"
to come on the offensive?
12. Since when has repulsion become the best
form of defence instead of attack?
13. Why did "Boko Haram" have the most
freedom to operate and destroy so many
towns and villages during all the period of
State of Emergency that was supposed to have
made them immobile?
14. Was the State of Emergency some fraud
pulled off to empower the "terrorists" and
make the targeted communities sitting ducks
for easy elimination?
15. Who was providing "Boko Haram" with fuel
and other logistics in their camps considering
how they easily move with long convoys of
trucks to operate without challenge?
These are not the only questions.... There are
many more. But they've not been able to
answer any of these, rather they always want
to heap their scheme on others.
These questions and many more could be the
reason they are mortally scared of losing
political power. But it just can't continue like
this anymore.
Change is a basic constant in life.

Re: How Goodluck Jonathan Destroyed APC's Momentum - A Nairalander's Analysis. by agabusta: 11:55pm On Feb 28, 2015
From the foregoing it is obvious that the PDP has no love for Nigeria. They are only selfishly protecting their personal ambitions. Their online supporters also regularly make this known in their silly posts.

Elections were postponed for 6 weeks and PDP supporters are happy that this will mean lesser campaign funds to the opposition. How silly can they be. Even at the heat of the earlier campaigns, PDP was spending virtually X10 of what the APC was spending. And it may continue like that till the elections but the facts are on ground already, APC has successfully communicated it's plans and voice to every nook and cranny of the country.

They are currently in London to re-strategise far beyond the listening capability of the PDP. Even at that, Osinbajo is still actively involved in grassroots mobilisations.

OP you will be taken aback by the momentum their campaigns will pick up again after they come back. It is very obvious APC has the best brains, the PDP will soon realise the error of this postponement when the APC launches another successful round of campaigns which will consolidate their earlier campaigns.

Has any one noticed that APC has maintained it's slogan for this election- change! While the PDP seems to be confused on what to stick with-transformation agenda, going forwards, real change (dem still wan steal APC own sef, lol).

PDP thinks Nigerians are fools. They waited till election time before taking a decisive action against BH and they think this their evil act will make them win votes in the NE. They are in for a shocker.

I see them spending their election chest out and dipping their dirty fingers into the treasury, but they will still meet their waterloo in March as the APC will win nothing less than 18 states in the NW, NE and NC:

Kano
Jigawa
Sokoto
Zamfara
Kebbi
Kaduna
Katsina
Bauchi
Gombe
Bornu
Yobe
Adamawa
Taraba
Nasarawa
Niger
Kwara
Kogi
Abuja

In the Southwest the APC will claim nothing less than 5 states:

Lagos (tight but APC presidential win certain)
Oyo
Ogun
Osun
Ondo

From the above, APC will clearly win 22 states and gets its constitutional 25% in the following states:

Plateau
Benue
Ekiti
Edo
Rivers
(this adding up with their win states will constitutionally give them victory at the polls)

The presidential election result cannot be far from the above if no mago-mago takes place, and despite the billions spent by the PDP on ridiculous propaganda, settling different civil groups and traditional leaders, hiring hundreds of internet propagandists APC will still be declared as the winner of the election.
smiley smiley

I painfully took time off from my Sat relaxation to be physically present at Prof Osinbajo's town hall meeting with youths in Ikeja, Lagos. He performed brilliantly, I was absolutely impressed.

Change indeed is coming! I can feel it, a better Nigeria is coming!

The big mistake in this thread is to think CHANGE is about Politics. The real brains in PDP know it is not and they are scared, it is the kids on the block who think the postponement, a few more tv adverts, some meetings and radio jingles will win it for Jonathan. HA HA HA. I laugh in kenery language. It is less than four weeks now and I am ready to bet that foundations will be shaken soon, even for APC in Lagos, the change will sweep them. PDP will lose nonchalantly in the presidency and mist of the federal seats. New parties we give impressive showings in Oyo, Delta and the South East states. Only the brain washed young supporters don't see the death of PDP yet.
