Was My Advice Wrong ? by obijack(op):
My younger brother who is in his late 30s has been out of job now for over 2 yrs. and was using his car for kabu kabu. however the car is now very old and breaks down virtually everyday. He has been applying for vacancies but notin yet. he collects money from his wife to fix d vehicle but still no headway. meanwhile d wife operates a nursery n pry. school and has about 60 pupils and 5 teachers and a strong supplies business on d side. His wife called me to talk to my broder to leave d car and assist her in running d school which is just 2yrs. and has promise of future growth or to help her in d supplies biz pending when they can save enough money to buy him anoda car if he wishes to continue or when he gets a job. pls note that they live in thier own house in ikorodu which is where d school school is located.. I called my broda and advised but now he does not want to pick my call.

pls. nairalanders did i advice him wrongly.

you didnt advice him wrongly.

the problem with we men, most times, is pride. your brother may be seeing it as demeaning to work "under" (as he may view it, whereas he will be actually "working") with this wife.

maybe next time he comes borrowing money from his wife to fix his car, she should refuse giving him.

Maybe his wife had told him the same thing but he refused, now he believes his wife must have talked to you to advice him, so he is angry that a third party wanna get involved

you are right, but some men can be so "traditional" to avoid been seen as depending on a lady but that is exactly what he is doing now in the guise of repairing an old car. He even took money from her to repair car but is refusing to join her in her business

You don't talk about these crucial things on phone. You have to go and visit him at home to thrash it out. You also have to find a way to massage his ego, make him see reason that the vehicle is now a liability and a partnership with the wife is by no means belittling, after all they're both aiming for one goal, which is a better life for their family.
