Residents of Agbado Oke-odo express their un-pleasant experience while compiling this report.

This was the case when residents of the Agbado/oke-odo recently staged a peaceful protest within their zone to show their displeasure with Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company IKEDC on the incessant power failure being witnessed in the area.

This, according to the residents, was as a result of the visibly old transformer which was often overloaded and could not distribute the power transmitted to it, thereby leading to load-shedding.

The angry residents were urging IKEDC to wake up to its responsibilities, especially that of providing service(power supply) for which payment is being made.

Salami Ajalekoko, A Fashion Designer and Vice Chairman, Agbado/Oke-odo Residents Association, said the IKEDC has not been fair to them, adding: “They only come here to collect money without any improvement of any sort. A businessman that has taken a concessionaire agreement has to invest and improve on the existing facilities and manage his customers”.

The chairman of Agbado/Oke-odo Association, in a telephone conversation, said some certain transformers in Agbado/Oke-odo are overloaded. “We have sent different delegations to IKEDC and their responses have always been that they cannot give what they don’t have.

Residents was bitter at the fact that the IKEDC had ignored all entreaties to improve power supply service to the area in spite various self-efforts by residents. According to him: “The current transformer being used was paid for through contributions by the residents. This included the cables, the poles and all other materials which automatically become the property of IKEDC and we still pay exorbitantly whether there is electricity supply or not”.

The chairman further emphasised the need for IKEDC to respond to their request urgently by supplying at least adequate hours of electricity daily shedding as the residents of the zone are known for their prompt payment of electricity bills.

The OP is actually saying the truth , I live in that area, and some parts of that area does not have light due to the overload on the transformer ,the truth is that some parts also have as much as 48 hrs power supply, but the part with the transformer over load is now in darkness because the transformer has packed up,it has being like that for about 3 months there about, please they should really do something about it ,precisely some parts of ajayi alder street, shogbesan etc,God bless Nigeria

u guys really need to read between the lines before commenting. This is a case of transformer overload. the fault is with the transformer, and not with the Lagos grid. I reside in Agbado and since 2013 we enjoy not less than 15hrs of electricity daily, transformer permitting

so the case of transformer overload is not the case to create awareness ? I think u should also read betwn the line before commenting because all those old and nonsense transformer using in those area if not for corruption and greed include tinubu diversification of some funds as it not be awarded by fed govern. That all should be using mini transformer? Or agbado/oke-odo area offend God to deserve some much poor electricity punishment ?
