In June 2009, the official vehicles of then Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, was intercepted in Lagos by the Police as they arrived for turn-around maintenance. When the vehicles were searched, a total of N250 million Naira was discovered and confiscated.

When news of the discovery broke, accusations flew everywhere that Peter was trying to launder money. Anambra State Assembly was controlled by PDP at the time,they held all 30 seats, and they saw this as an opportunity to finally nail Obi. Overnight, the EFCC, Nigerian Police as well as the Anambra State PDP controlled Assembly, all announced that they would investigate the money.

After one month of investigations, the Nigerian Police quietly returned the money to Obi, EFCC concluded their investigation and found no case.

The Anambra State Assembly 3 man committee set up to investigate the money returned to Anambra, and announced that the N250 million was just a case of a government contractor who was paid by cheque to supply 42 cars to Anambra State government, but chose to cash the cheque in Awka, and travel with the money with governors convoy to Lagos

So for those who will talk about this 250 million in the future, if EFCC, Nigerian Police and Anambra State Assembly have investigated, found no wrong doing, and closed their case on this issue, its time for you to close your case this issue as well.
