How did the serpent "tempt" Mankind in the garden of Eden?

(A). He crept up to Eve and then, deceived her to eat from the fruit. Eve, then did same to Adam, who wasn't present at the time.
(B). The serpent came at a time when they were together. Then, it tempted them.
(C). The serpent hypnotized and possessed Eve. This was how it also possessed Adam.
(D). None of the above.
(E). I'm not too sure what really happened there.

these are allegories, to be taken as literal to the uneducated majority of old but the true meanings lie with the wise ones and initiates

The answer is B.

Let us consider this scripture reference;

(a). "For though we live as human beings, we do not wage war according to human standard, for the weapon of our warfare are not human weapons, but are made powerful by God for tearing down strongholds. We tear down ARGUMENTS and ARROGANT OBSTACLES that is raised up against the KNOWLEDGE of God, and make every THOUGH captive to make it obey Christ."
(2 Corinthians 10:3-5, NET).

In the above verses, the author educates his listeners on part of 'How The Enemy Operates.' He reveals it to them: their minds! Their minds were the "battlefields" where the Enemy engaged them in spiritual warfare. He went in to elaborate on the term, "strongholds". He made mentioned of "arguments", "arrogant obstacles" that is raised up against the knowledge of God. He later on, summarised a way out to the people, provided by God.

He says to them, "each time your thoughts are not in consistency with the Word of God, each time your mind start creating or developing on ideas, or philosophies or traditions and customs contrary to Gods Word, make sure you subject that foul thought, and use the Word as a measuring yardstick against such thoughts. And if the thought proves "stubborn", use the Word against it. It will yield and go away." (Emphasis, mine).

Let us look at another reference in the Bible,
(b). James 1:13-15; "Let no on say when he is tempted, " I am tempted by God." For God cannot be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each one is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desires. Then when desire conceives, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is full grown, it gives birth to death."

So you see, they were in on it together but, the thought was first "project" to Eve. A while later, She discussed it with Adam. Adam was fully aware of her thoughts and desires; and that her thoughts were against God's instructions. But, just as Apostle James rightly clarified, he wasn't deceived.

So, they were in on it together as husband and wife. A collaboration.

Was God too mean as to have driven them out? Never!

Nehemiah 1:9, NET, "But if you repent  and obey my commandments and do them, then even if your dispersed people are in the most remote location, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen for my name to reside."

The keyword to watchout for in the above reference is "REPENT". That is, to confess and amend your ways. Note that it is not the same "repent" unto New Life. God is all loving. All He waited for, from them was an apology and a sober heart, simply! But, more thoughts got in them, and pride got them kicked out.
