Big difference. GEJ became president with existing constitution. If the proposed amendment is implemented, GEJ would only have been president for 3 months; and another costly election held.

What! The Vice President no longer becomes President for a the rest of the tenure? What madness is this! So the entire country will have to go through the rigorous process of a costly and violent election just because the powers that be don't believe a Vice President is good enough to be President? So he only acts for Three months and then elections are conducted?

I hope in this proposed unconscionable amendment they will add that the VP turned Acting President will not be eligible to contest in that time as well because it's obvious that the aim of this rubbish is to make sure the VP, usually from a region different from the President will never become President!

So if in a tenure presidents become incapacitated or even die 2ice Nigerians will be put through elections for another 2 times?

The essence of the Constitution is to create a livable society not a he'll like one. I think that section is ok the way it is. It same with the US Constitution where we COPIED from. Electronoona are super expensive both in terms of financial resources, human resources and otherwise. We have to avoid constant elections till 4 years is over.

I don't think that is exactly the issue because assuming a new election is held and a candidate from another party win the poll what will now be the fate of the current VP whose original tenure of office is 4years ? Will the new President now be forced to work with a VP from another party or the current VP will be asked to resign.

Statutory vacancy means death or resignation of the president. The current law stipulates that in ththe case of this vacancy the vice president is sworn.in as president and completes his tenure. The ammendment means the vice will be be rectified as acting and a new election will hold in.three months. This means if anything should happen.to Buhari. Osibanjo can only be made an acting president aand a new election would hold.
