Human beings everywhere share a special relationship with the sun. However, as we crave the sun’s heat and light, this golden star can have a dangerous and deadly effect upon us. We must be aware that there is a dark side to the sun and learn how to protect ourselves from it.

Nigeria is located in the tropics and the tropics is famous for his intense sunlight. Farming is done during day usually under the intense and scorching tropical sun, but too often people tend to overlook the risks of the sun’s damaging rays on their eyes.

The sun’s primary danger is in the form of Ultraviolet (UV) radiation. UV radiation is a component of solar radiation, but it can also be given off by artificial sources like welding machines and lasers.

Many people may not realize that exposure to UV radiation can harm the eyes or that other components of solar radiation can also affect vision. There are three types of UV radiation: UV-C is absorbed by the ozone layer and does not present any threat; UV-A and UV-B radiation can have adverse long- and short-term effects on the eyes and vision.
