The ongoing debate between supporters of renewable energy and those who have investments or those using fossil fuels rests on two main arguments: cost of energy, impact on environment. Recently, outliers to the energy crisis debate have spoken persuasively on the future potential and energy efficiency of energy sources. How does this affect you? In a country with an effete power system, industries, school, business building, places of worship amongst others, have found solace in generator: Noisy, mostly reliable -if serviced regularly -and sometimes worth a fortune. The proliferation of generators by industrial and domestic resident underlies the need for device to switch between two (2) or more sources, which we all know as the switch (change) over.
The current change over functions well, however it is mechanical and always requires human effort. The automatic changeover, a recent iteration of the manual change over hasn’t received much popularity compared to the preponderance of its predecessor. High cost of automation or automation systems, a close relative of the automation is expensive and out of the common man’s reach in this part of the world. This belief while party true, fails to consider or mention that complex processes require more materials, hence more money, and simple processes can be automated with ingenuity and proper can be automated with ingenuity and proper component selection, which produces an in expensive and affordable autotelic system without compromising on the quality. The current changeover I am advocating offers much more than the reduced price, flexibility, durability, fuel management and control are feature added to aid consumer’s use experience.
While a significant reduction in price is good, to understand why there should be a demand for the product, we must consider the effect on the quality of life. For instance, an office worker who has spent 8hour at work, crunching numbers and dealing with quotidian office issues, and has spent 4hour traveling back home after being caught in traffic would not find putting the generator on, switching the changeover after an inextricable power outage and repeating the process when power is restored pleasurable or desirable. Some might say a gateman or help could be employed to perform such tasks; an alternative which is expensive and inefficient in contrast to the auto changeover system which obviates the need for gateman performs the tasks efficiently. The system is also equipped to turn the generator on following power loss and it switches after 2 minutes of detecting that power has been restored. This feature reduces the strain on the switching mechanism and the abrupt turning ON-OFF of the generator.
Furthermore, flexibility of the system allows users to customize it systems to suit their needs. Customizable units allow the modification to set of certain parameters congenial to the user preferences. One quintessential feature is setting the time the generator should be started and when it should be turned off, in Nigeria, we refer to that as central generator time (CGT) between 7-12 p.m., and the number of times the consumer can kick-start his generator in a scenario whereby the generator does not come on at first start the number of kicks is between 3-10.
Also the user can select between a one-time start and continuous start. Thirdly, the unit contains a display, when combined with a fuel level sensor present in the generator. The user then has the prerogative, to command the generator to turn itself OFF when the fuel has reached a set or predestined level. User experience and ease of use is greatly improved with these features.
Finally the product design and packing demonstrate a keen understanding of aesthetics, which was perfectly integrated, without compromising the safety and electrical integrity of the system critics-traducers and luddites argue that the system in new and relatively untested and therefore it is inexpedient. This reasoning however suffers from the unfortunate assumption that being new means inefficient. In fact, survey reveals that people are in concert with new tech, and our technological saturated society inured to the erratic and poor power supply would gladly accept this break-through product. Also, the product was built to conform to stringent engineering standard and a reliability tending close to one within the auspices of the energy world and more important bringing automation technology closer to you.
