I have always wondered and thought about the teaching of tithing, and sometimes I get to ask my self questions like: is it a sin for someone not to pay tithe and if yes does it mean those who fail to tithe are express candidates for hell fire?

Not paying tithe does not mean it is a sin and you will never be liable to hell

Yes, it could. God called the Jews who didn't pay tithes thieves and robbers. That makes it a crime.

Well, people argue that was the old Testament. The new Testament is even more demanding. Jesus says we should sell what we have and give alms - Luke 12:33. This is more than the value of tithe.

Tithe is the least expected of a child of God. If those under the Old Testament could give 10% of their income and increase, what are we supposed to do that have received uncommon favour of salvation. We should give much more.

Remember, Ananias and Sapphire died for lying about their pledge they promised to give. Acts 5:1-10.

God gave his best for you. Releasing 10% of your income should not be burdensome.

There are those who discourage it on the ground that it is the man of God who eats the tithe.

Well, even if he is the one, who does the work of building the Church? In any case, their are workers that assist especially on full time. Tithe is used to pay their salaries also.

Payment of tithe helps the ministry to make faster progress. The one who withholds his tithe has no deep interest in the welfare of the Pastor and workers. If the Pastor is not well cared for, how will he minister effectively to his congregation.

Pay your tithe and stop monitoring what it is used or not used for. Be more concerned about the blessings you stand to enjoy.

For me, I see tithing as a principle just like giving where someone gives and the measure which he/she gives is given back to him, so is tithing which God will rebuke the devourer for our sake. But still I wonder why God will ask us to give money for devourers to be rebuke when i know there are lots of battles God fight for me without me paying a dime. What if you engage in charity to ppl who are in dear need of the money?Also, why didn't Jesus talked about tithing in his earthly ministry?
