We have been running our website for about 4 years now & there is an urgent need for a mobile app.

From my findings websites can be converted into an app or you get a developer to build one for you.

I need to know which is better?

What are the challenges involve in running them?

Would you recommend developing an app or we should just convert the site into an app?

It depends on what type of site it is
And also if it is based on a cms.(jomla, wordpress, etc)

As a software engineer and web developer, I will tell you that the main reason for having a mobile app for a blog is to get readers updated with blog posts through push notifications.
Websites that are converted into mobile apps don't have features like push notification and the layouts not beautiful. It is something you wont like to publish on google play store to represent your 4 years blog.
