pls i need a bootable linux cd/dvd, preferably ubuntu or knoppix. also wont mind gettin books on linux

Thats simple! Just go to any Linux Distro site and download the latest version, I like to use Fedora http://fedoraproject.org/en/get-fedora but most people like to use Ubuntu http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download - it is the most user freindly.

When you have downloaded the Disk Images (files) then you need to burn it onto a DVD, then simply restart your computer with the DVD/CDs in the DVD/CD Drive and the startup screen will appear. Warning backup all of your data before you install it! Good luck

It used to take 30days or thereabout to deliver Ubuntu disk if you made a request from their site. I dont know of now.

Ubuntu is very Ok, U dont even nid to install it over ur current OS or create another partition for it, just slot it in while the system is being started. Voila! U're in Linux without disturbing ur XP or whatever one bit.

tanks but wont mind gettin d info of where i can easily buy it cos of d short-comings of downloading and besides, its pretty scarce even in computer village( where u wont find d full version)

If you do not want to download just buy a beginners book on the Linux distro you want and such books usually come with a CD of the Linux Operating system.
