More grievous was the first amputation done in the history of medicine was with no form of anaesthesia. The guy was held by people and died some days after from surgical wound infections. Well, we all owe a big gratitude to Alexander Fleming. He revolutionized medicine

It may seem scary but it's one of the best birthing positions, cos it offers more opening in the pelvis with less pain leaving gravity to do most of the job. History has it that women birth upright, kneeling, squatting, all-fours, side-lying, or asymmetric positions without the need of cesarean section and near Zero mortality. This are active position compared to the passive position used today.
