Good morning, everyone. Please, I need honest advice from Nigerians who have experienced life in the UK, especially Nigerians who have returned home after relocating abroad.

Please as a Nigerian if you have not visited the UK or lived in the west before then stay away, you'll never understand the challenges abroad thus youll start making silly comments like:

or "anywhere is better than nigeria"
or start throwing insult on something you know nothing about.

I knew abroad was hard, i watched people's story on youtube but i never expected it to be this terrible.

I am a Nigerian currently in the UK studying for a master's degree. Honestly, I am struggling badly with life here, and I have been regretting since i came here.
Before coming to the UK, I had my own challenges in Nigeria, but I was far happier, i had peace i took for granted.

Since arriving here, I have been feeling stressed, worried and trapped. I don't enjoy anything about this place, and I find myself regretting my decision almost every day. Sometimes people even notice the worry on my face and ask me if I am okay, THE STRESS IS OVERWHELMING.

One of the things weighing heavily on me is the routine I have ahead of me for the next year. I either have to go to school or be working. I don't have even one day of rest in a week not even Sunday. This is what my life is going to look like for the next year, and honestly, I don't know how I will cope with it. The thought of living like this is overwhelming, should i even call that living?

Another thing that worries me is the future. I see people talking about five year and ten year plans to gather enough funds and return back home, but I don't even know how I can stay here for another month. I have met Nigerians who have lived here for many years, some 5, 10 years and they have nothing, even the ones who manage to build one small house in Nigeria built it with their life(not money) working like a sl@ve 7 days a week toiling and jeopadising your health just to build a house, is it worth it?

Seeing this has made me question what exactly I am walking into and wether its better to exit early when i still have my youth, i mean the kind energy people put here if they put it back in Nigeria they must succeed.
People are not happy here they are simply enduring everything because they have already invested so much in coming and is ashamed to go back.

If I return to Nigeria now, I will have to start figuring things out again.
My biggest fear is not just the financial side of returning. It is also what people will say. Some Nigerians may laugh at me for returning after such a short time, especially when so many people are desperate to relocate abroad.

I don't want to make a decision based on people's opinions, but I would be lying if I said their judgment does not bother me.
At the same time, I don't want to spend the next 5-10 years being miserable, missing out on life, toiling, waking up by 4am and getting home by 8pm simply because I am afraid of what people will say. If i ever get the courage to go back to Nigeria ill never leave that place, you'll never value that Country until you've left. I am just confuse at the moment.

Find a room in the North in cities like Leeds, Newcastle, Gateshead or Sunderland. Life is cheaper there and you can save. Then rent a room at around 400-550

Look for a job that pays you weekly. Use your last week of the month's money for your rent and groceries. The other three weeks should go into your savings.

By month 12 you'd have 20m - 40m+ saved. Take it and bounce to never return again.

Move the money through digital apps. Learn a business as an apprentice somewhere in Nigeria whilst pretending to be broke. Stay humble. Then when you have achieved enough knowledge, launch the same business elsewhere (i.e if it is profitable based off your experience).

Be persistent and patient. You'll reap the rewards

Let me try a different hook. Three things that surprised me most moving from sales to code:

The main reason why a lot of freelancers end up chasing clients is because of their structure of their deals.

To bill a client, always break it down into cycles and sprints. Payment first then showcase progress after every cycle. To proceed to the next, the client pays. That way you never lose. No payment no work.

But a lot of freelancers seem to be desperate to get work or collect work. The client can always sense that so they play you too their advantage.

I recently charged 6 figures for testing alone, after one yr+ of tough negotiations over the building of a very cumbersome app. An app that would have cost the client over 8-9 figures to build but he was very indecisive.

I built a 80% of it, kept it in the burner and he came around. I charged my rate and it was a take it or leave it.

Client had spun around the block several times and got crazy billing from different freelancers and I knew this. So I did not budge.

He paid. So create something that works and solve the problem for the client in the quickest way possible but get paid first.

It's the first rule of the game

Love the idea because you solved a real problem.

Selling to Nigerians would be a tough sell.
I'd focus on selling outside Nigeria for they would value your proposition.

The UI needs work to look less AI cos it's very obvious that it was developed with AI.

Lastly, pricing should be relatively cheap starting from 5.99 USD a month for a certain number of proposals and other tiers at different numbers, to encourage at least one person to sign up.

Thanks for this, currently i am building a startup, it is an errand platform like chowdeck but specifically for campuses that way students can get a good source of income without affecting their studies. We just started this year so getting profit is not something we are looking at till 10 years to come because we plan on continuous expansions to different schools with all available earnings but the thing is i also need a way to fund my business while building my career along the way.

As for getting consistent customers it is a work in progress because i am still learning how to communicate my skills.

Hello here,

So I have a very dear family (80+ man) who has been diagnosed with stage-iv Prostate Cancer that has metastasise into the bones. Currently unable to walk but still able to stand with limited aid.

The medical treatment pathway is to kill the testicles the prostate is feeding on and treat the symptoms (palliative care). Now, a lot of people are coming around with knowing someone who helped someone managed it well with herbs and all for years.

I know I will take on any treatment to ensure we can keep him for as long as possible but the explanation from trado-medicinal people is not just adding up to me. If you can cure it in 1month and charging only 200k, I don't think anyone will still be going to the hospital plus with this current stage too.

It's very seldom to see outstanding web designers/front-end developers in Nigeria. There is always the element of copy and paste and the ideas are rarely original.

In graphic design, there are tons of good ones but when it comes to developing the UI without copying ideas and then coding it, it's rare to see awwwards.com level designs.

Claude code does everything now and many developers losses jobs. If I get a client and just $200 I can build the same fintech app worth 8M in space of 2month with Claude.

The game has changed, the field is tighter now and people barely care about your portfolio website anymore. Use your knowledge to build a couple of websites and monetize them through AdSense, it's a little passive income, but it adds up. Or vlog and share your knowledge on social platforms, get paid directly and clients will reach out to you every now and then.

I couldn't have said it better. Creating products now seem more viable than seeking for tech jobs as they are phasing out with the emergence of AI.

That doesn't mean one can't make doe with tech. Still on an 8X deal and its private. Didn't have to apply for no jobs out there, just made leverage with an already existing client.

So@original poster, you could start getting private clients. Your portfolio is more than enough.

Been 5 years with the client so it's not like it happened out of the blue. So, my advice is to start now building clientele asap. It would create revenue from the jump and residual income.

And set out to make over 1m a year in residuals. That way you pay yourself without doing much, annually. Most devs end up broke becos they overthink ish and want to save the world by building the next big product or they'd prefer working for a big startup.

I took the other route. I got rejected for 5 yrs and built my ish instead. I started like you as well so don't be scared one bit!

I reckon you'd be an excellent Front-end dev with some work as you are already showing signs with your layouts but you need a lot of work.

Agents would collect inspection fee, you'd book a viewing appointment. He'd arrive late and take over two hrs. Then you'd show up at the place and the gate is locked. He'd be showing you the interior from the outside, telling you to look closer.

Uyo agents are just village people learning agency work.

The first one I'd ever met showed up in shorts and a t-shirt. Took us to view a place where the kitchen cupboard was 1metre from the ceiling and no light. Asked about the connection and he said "pay first, that one na small thing".

Same agent was to show me another apartment and the relative to the owner told him he couldn't let him through at the moment. The local champion started screaming on the phone, yelling to the top of his lungs saying "Who are you?! I'm a big boy". At the end of the day, I gave the hungry man lunch money.

That was the last time I was normal with an agent.

Imagine handing an officer ₦50,000 at a checkpoint just to avoid a traffic ticket, only to later discover that the actual official fine for that offence was just ₦2,000.

One time the VIO told me I was driving without a razor blade in my first aid. I told them I didn't know and I'd buy it along the way but they insisted I settled them ₦10k or we go to the office. Yeah, they started preaching about the law being not emotional. They saw I was in a hurry and they wanted to reap where they didn't show.

Normally I don't stop for them on the road.. because there is a standing court order restricting them from being on the road..and if they disobey that, why would I obey them? But the congestion in the traffic was tortoise slow. Like the officer had to call his boss and the boss stood firm reiterating what they wanted. I asked how to pay and he told me he'll call a POS girl closeby..that they don't accept transfer. Lol. I firmly told him I wanted to pay the fine directly to the govt, and I have Remitta and en come bi like then everywhere got frozen. I saw the frowns on their face as I did it via Remitta.

Same thing with the Road Safety and the police. They will always threaten to take you to he office. Why are you scared to go!
