I am an AutoCAD guru so i'm searching for people with the same flair on Nairaland.
Re: Using Autocad by LoverBwoy(m): 1:41am On Feb 01, 2007
what sort of autocad guru are you, can you teach me MCAD online?
Re: Using Autocad by liteman(m): 1:19am On Feb 02, 2007
my major is mechanical designs. Both 2D and 3D modelling.
Loverbwoy, even if i can take you time is very significant constraint.
Would u mind a 1-on-1 training?
Re: Using Autocad by joeevu: 3:10am On Feb 02, 2007
i am interested in AutoCAD too, what can you tell me about it

I'm currently doing mechanical drawings though basics- we just moved into 3D

I'm not exactly sure how you mean, 1-on-1; I'm on the other side of the pond wink

what about a tutorial or something, step by step guide
thanks
Re: Using Autocad by liteman(m): 3:29am On Feb 02, 2007
loverbwoy, what i meant by 1-on-1 is a proper formal training and that entails contact. but now that you said you are on the other side of the pond, it might be impossible. but not to worry i.m setting up a blog that you can get quality tips from. i let out the link soon.
Note, joeevu

Re: Using Autocad by liteman(m): 11:26pm On Feb 03, 2007
Aliright, i have decided to be posting some tips till i get my blog working since i am yet to meet other AutoCAD gurus on nairaland.
Ok today i want to say that the first step to a successful software learning is to get the software. so all interested AutoCAD learners should get the software.
then install it. the latest version is the AutoCAD 2007 and it requires you having at least a Pentium 4 motherboard, with a RAM size of 512MB. Also your processor speed should be about 2.0 GHz.
the 2006 version is still relevant and i suggest you go for that for now. 2007 could be a little confusing.
so, let get by with that for the moment.

Re: Using Autocad by LoverBwoy(m): 3:07am On Feb 06, 2007
Cool, just click Graphics

got my autocad 06 ready

when you finished with autocad, did you move on to solidworks?
Re: Using Autocad by liteman(m): 7:09am On Feb 07, 2007
@Loverbwoy. Good that you've got your AutoCAd 06. i am moving on to Autodesk Inventor 11 not solidworks.
alright moving ahead, let's take a short intro. Prominent on your screen after opening your program is the drawing area (black, by default), all your drawings will be done in this area. below it is the commandline and you get your feedbacks from AutoCAD on this line.
Rule 1: NEVER TAKE YOUR EYES OFF THE COMMANDLINE. it is what keeps you in control.
on the top and at the sides of the drawing area are the toolbars. they contain icons which you will be using to command AutoCAD. Note that there are about 30 of these toolbars and they can be accessed by right clicking on any icon in toolbar. after right clicking you will observed that some are checked while others are not the checked ones are the ones that are active on your profile. Now uncheck all the toolbars except the STANDARD, DRAW and MODIFY toolbars.
Re: Using Autocad by 2old4that(m): 7:22pm On Feb 07, 2007
hm hmm. . . next tip.

i really wish to learn Autocad on my own. . . do u think its possible, Liteman?
Re: Using Autocad by liteman(m): 12:59am On Feb 10, 2007
@2old4dat
that is what we are doing via this medium.
Now my next tip will be little complicated. it about the bar that is below the comandline called the status bar. Now i must say to fully exhaust the functions of the status bar cannot be adequtely be done via this forum but i will give a seemingly usable intro.
the status bar responsible for accuracy and time management while drawing. it contains commands that will equip the user to draw accurately and at a good speed. Now on that bar you'll see SNAP,GRID,ORTHO,POLAR etc
now, Snap and grid work together like a graph sheet. Once the gird command is activated, there will be dots arrayed orthogonally or isometrically (according to the setting) over your drawing area. now if snap is on, your crosshair will be snapping to the grid dots.
for ortho: it allows you to draw parfectly horizontal or vertical lines while polar allows you to draw them diagonally at a specified angle to the horizontal.
OSNAP and OSNAP Tracking: there certain points on any object drawn that has some defining attributes. Now when you draw a line you expect it to have a starting point and an endpoint. Lines also have midpoints, now it is the object snap (OSNAP) that see to it that this point are indicated once your crosshair passes over the points. the OSNAP trackinghelps you to track the line of action of these points.
Now this is how far i can go this morning. to get more you can view help files on your AutoCAD program till my blog is ready.
Re: Using Autocad by schibaba(m): 8:02am On Feb 10, 2007
hello guys,
sorry to ask a foolish question. Must i be an engineer to be able to use autocad very well and know what to do with it.

i am a computer science graduate and found out that you could make some cool cash if you can work with autocad.

so is it really for engineers only?
Re: Using Autocad by liteman(m): 2:26am On Feb 23, 2007
Now i know i should do some apologizing for the break it was due to some pressures.
@Schibaba.
AutoCAD is not only for engineers just has nothing is for a particular profession any longer.
now today i want to talk on the DRAW toolbar. this is the most important in AutoCAD 'cos "WITHOUT IT YOU CAN DO NOTHING".
Now the commands on this toolbar are creative in nature the create things (objects). Object creation starts with point specification. To specify a point in AutoCAD have a number of methods but the easiest is to pick a command and just click a stating point on the model screen. to draw most of this basic objects listed in the DRAW toolbar, just specify a starting point and follow the command line. Pls let me know you observations.

preshm15:

OK preshm15, the '06 version of the software does not require a serial number to work continuously. what you need to do is to CRACK it . to do this you must have the full installation files. in the extracted installation files, there is a folder called "Crack".
try running the program immediately after installation, a page comes up which which asks you whether you want to activate the software or just run the trial version. In fact the option to choose is " Enter aactivation code". once you pick this the ctivation page comes up. in the crack folder that i described above, there is a keygen program there. open it and copy the request code from the activation page into the keygen program the activation code will come up immediately, copy the activation code into it provided space in the activation page and fill other information required then move to the next page. After all, the program will run for as long as you want.

pls where do i get to learn on 3d, 3d max, piping design
Re: Using Autocad by Ivvie: 10:36am On Jan 13, 2008
I thought autocad was phased out.  People use Civil now.  I use CATIA alongside with Abaqus for my automotive and aerospace design and analysis.  It's all you need.  I never really got the chance with Unigraphics because the environment just never got my taste but I will since it's SAE's standard.

honeydrops:

please where do i get to learn on 3d, 3d max, piping design

Piping and plant design could be learnt off forums (if you have are somewhat inclined).  If you have no clue about it, I suggest you buy a book or download a book.  Your best bet for piping or plant design will be Inventor.  If you have access to PDMS, go for it.
Re: Using Autocad by tomX1(m): 8:59pm On Jan 15, 2008
@liteman,
NIce effort. You will realise by now that to teach something as complex as autocad on a forum will require a lot of forward planning on your part. Dont just try to post on the fly. Work out a detailed tutorial and get as many screen shots as possible, to help shed light on your write up ( a pix is woth a thousand word). Also do some sample drawings to go along with each lesson and where nescesary, upload these files along with the post so that the viewers can see and also download the files.

I'll wil sugest you work towards completion of a small drawing project at some point (say - design of a Single room cabin). This will help to give the viewers a sense of direction since they have a more wholistic view of where that particular tutorial is headed. etc.

You will realy need to plan a very good sylabus to make it work.

Good luck with your tutorial and may God add to you as you add to others.

Re: Using Autocad by crewson548: 12:24pm On Oct 29, 2012
For 3D solid modeling technology this Auto cad is essential to design.. The level of compatibility not found in other manufacturing solutions. The advance technology with enhanced user interface that will be immediately recognizable to individuals familiar with AutoCAD.
