Big big IT jargon! every one is trying to show how hot his brain is and how smart and fully compliant they are!

what piss me off the most is with all this big IT jargon that we are so used to flaunting av not yet seen a fully functional and commercialised game console designed by a nigerian programmer neither have i seen any good or partially working os developed by a nigerian!

the worst part is no one has developed a professional platform to support compilation in any African language! yet we are all speaking big IT jargon when children in china, japan, Russia and some other European countries are compiling in their native language!

Copycats!!! Empty drums that make the loudest noise!!

Friends, please keep with the poster's topic. Keep it simple.

Best OS for Programming , in my opinion, is LINUX.
And my favourite DISTRIBUTION of LINUX is , wait for it, OpenSUSE.
It's like having your own Tooling shop and all materials needed for all your tasks.
Heck, even the kitchen sink gets thrown in for good measure.

Try it and Behold, FREEDOM.

You are not the silliest person in the world but you're so close. Cynicism does not really sell here and except you have done something about the things you listed above, shut the hell up.

Back to the original question,

In my own opinion, Linux is an excellent platform for programming (I use OpenSuse, so I'll vote for it). Generally, the best platform for an application/software depends on the type of application you want to build, the language you are comfortable with, your target users, etc. If you program with Java, u can use any operating system and get same results. Java programmers do not worry much about platforms anyway, thats one reason Java is very popular.

If you are building an application that is targetted for windows users, then your best bet would be any windows platform using any .NET language. If you are building games or multimedia applications, then Windows/mac would be just ok. Other than these, I'll recommend Linux. Since Linux is very similar to unix, I believe what's good on linux is good on unix

lossa: Practice makes perfect.  I'm starting up a C/asm programming lecture for beginners, if you want to join -- let me know. Some say it takes 10 years to become a competent programmer, or, rather -- it takes 10 years to become an expert in any field, be it playing the piano, being a programmer, or cooking blowfish *shrug* -- Depending on your aspirations and goals, you might consider learning a simpler language (that would take a shorter amount of time to master), maybe I'll put Python in the list of languages to learn. Give or take, you'll develop competence in about a year, with continual development.

It isn't difficult. It just takes retention.

And depending on whether or not you're interested, send your email address or msg me, so I can start setting things up, see https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-401843.0.html

The silliest post ever,

If these, "game consoles" and "a paltform to support ibo or hausa" and "a Nigerian OS" is what defines skill, then he's stupid.

Consider how many Nigerians work for IBM, Microsoft, Google. Why aren't they acknowledged?

I'm not here to defend Nigeria, I think the country is a pile of rubbish waiting to be fully destroyed, but this guy is probably hugely clueless about what he's even talking about. Children make game consoles, all the time -- see Python.

I've made operating system kernels, why do I need to then give Nigeria credit for it? Nigeria has only possibly made the process longer with its constant light taking.

What this also begs for is a question, to greateros, as to why he hasn't done any of the aforementioned things himself, to represent his kinsmen?

it depends on what you are doing and the system you are working on?

okay, if you say so ,
Indeed:

In August 2006, Apple announced that DTrace, a dynamic tracing framework created by Sun Microsystems and released as part of OpenSolaris, would be integrated into Xcode as Xray; Xray was later renamed to Instruments.
