Yesternight, I was listening to a programme on a radio station based in abuja. It's a regular programme anyway and an interactive one that allows people to call in and make comments, pass remarks and share their views on a topic esblished by the anchorer just like the way we have an OP here on NL for each topic.
An interesting topic it was yesterday when the anchorer (a regular, name withheld) shared a scenario of someone peeping into another passenger's phone while chatting in a commercial vehicle/transport. The discussion and the discussants went diversified and strolled from one angle of the topic to another perspective, views and opinions.
The bottom line was that some people (callers) were indifferent about the act of peeping through someone seated next to you's phone, a device of communication or even a newspaper while others were of the opinion that it is a very bad and condemnable attitude to portray in a public place.
It got more interesting when the anchorer was against the opinion that says its not a bad act and emphasized on how really ridiculous it is, to peep on someone else's device and concluded that it is a total case of 'intrusion to someone's privacy' and should be treated as such. She was so bittered about it and reflected same throughout the programme.
Meanwhile, the reason I bring this on board and deemed it fit to seek our views/opinions/stand on this topic is that while the anchorer was busy condemning the act, a caller called in and analysed how he was travelling some time ago. He claimed that one way or the other, he noticed that the lady sitting down next to him in a public vehicle he boarded was chatting with unknown person(s) and giving him/them (her gang) the current location of their vehicle.
Out of curiosity, he tried to follow the chat discreetly and eventually found out that she was giving her gang tip on their movement so as to monitor them and get them robbed.
Fortunately enough, when they got to a police checking point, he logically got down and reported the lady to the officers of the NPF. The lady was summoned down from the vehicle, checked her conversation on the phone and confirmed the man's assertion.
Now, reading from both sides of views, would you condemn the act of peeping through someone's phone in a public transport as bad habit or rather encourage it as being vigilant?
Pls ignore the epistle nature the article has.
