TEXT:"And God said, Let there be light: and there was light."-Genesis 1:3 Light is the energy, especially from the sun, lamp, etc, that makes it possible to see things. The light that God spoke into existence is the light of the world. This light made everything God created to be visible to, and understood by, man. The created things would have remained invisible, and in darkness, if not for the light. The light made it possible to see the things God created. That is the reason whenever light is shed on anybody or anything, that person or thing becomes visible and clear. Jesus is the light of the world, John 8:12. Any one who follows him shall not walk in darkness, but will have the light. The people of Zebulon and Naphtali, that received Jesus in Capernaum, that borders their lands, though they have been in great darkness, saw the light, Isaiah 9:1, 2; Matthew 4:12-17. In John chapter nine, Jesus saw a man who was blind from his birth. His disciples asked him, saying, "Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?", John 9:2. But, Jesus replied them that neither the man nor his parents sinned: but for the works of God to be manifested in his life was he blind. Furthermore, Jesus said that he must work the works of God while it is day, the night comes when no one can work. As long as he is in the world, he is the light of the world. Nobody is to remain blind, because he is in the world to make everything visible. And after all these, Jesus healed the blind man, and he saw. In addition, whosoever is blind, and does not believe in Jesus. Whenever such a person comes to Jesus believing, Jesus will forgive and give such a person sight. But, whosoever is blind, and claims he can see, and does not believe in Jesus. Such a person is still in darkness, and will never receive forgiveness nor sight from Jesus Christ. This is because his or her sins are not forgiven. This was the case of some of the Pharisees, who claim they can see, whereas they are living in darkness, John 9:39-41. In the book of Revelation, Jesus admonished the church of the Laodiceans, to anoint their eyes with eye salve, that they may see, because they claimed among other things that they were not blind, whereas they are wallowing in darkness without knowing it, Revelation 3:14-18. Subsequently, believers in Christ today, are the light of the world, Matthew 5:14-16. And as the light of the world, we are like a city that is set on a hill, that cannot be hidden. Men do not light a candle, and put it under a container, but they put it on a candle stand; and it gives light to those in the house. Our light should so shine before men, that they may see our good works, and give glory to our Father in heaven. Moreover, just as Jesus came to make the Father and his creations visible and understandable, so that nobody will walk in darkness again, so also should every child of God do in this present world. And how do we do this: by obeying the commands of Jesus Christ in the gospel, especially, the commands in Matthew 5:43-48. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen. Pastor K. C. |
